BLAX NEWS: Will "Sexting" Overtake "Abstinence Only Education" As The Key Threat To Risks Of Unprotected By Teens?

Who would have guessed it?

In the summer of 2010 I was in Philly and noted the propaganda blitz for the "Philly Stay Free Condom".
After a design and slogan contest the specimen to the left was chosen for their "Wrap It Up Campaign".

Yet as I was driving around, listening to the music stations that I used to tune into as a teenager I couldn't help but to notice that nearly every song played on "Urban Hip Hop/R&B radio" focused on some inference to sex:..................

  • I want to get some from you
  • We are now doing it and it feels good
  • Thank you for the "free benefits"
It was clear that the "Philly Free Condom" (and the CONSCIOUSNESS that created it in response to the problem with STDs and unplanned pregnancy) had no intention in guiding young people toward better choices on their way to producing better outcomes.    Like the  prophylactic  they were handing out for free, their goal was to erect a "0.1 mil thick" layer of abstraction around a serious PROBLEM suffered by the young people within their domain of influence that their societal and cultural theories are not able to resolve via its "human resource governance" style.

Even though "The South" is tarred with a label of "intransigence" to the point where they destroy their own development - as a person who has lived in both domains I can tell you that they BOTH suffer from the same problem with unwillingness to change, they merely express their intransigence in different ways.  Bigotry in which a person or group of people are unwilling to align their acceptance that they have a problem with the residual and repetitive things that they do to amplify the problem is a character of both areas.

The Politics Of Sex And Culture

I need to publish some video snippets from the PBS "Frontline" episode entitle "AIDS And The Black Community" to bear out my point about how the underlying ideological biases that are advocated by some people - AGAINST - what they see as "ideological biases" held by others are also damaging to the Black community.  They merely claim the "moral high ground" to evade discussion about their damage.

The universal attacks on "Abstinence Only Education" are the catch all to all of the sexual health problems - along with the "Homophobic Black Church"  (On the subject of A.A. - I don't believe should be the exclusive message  taught to young people but I also believe that there are other community institutions beyond the schools that can do a more effective job at having the message stick)

In as much as it is true that "Abstinence Only Education" is a province of "right wing dominated states" (Frontline showed Black teachers in Alabama teaching it) there is great intellectual cowardice in detailing why liberal areas such as Washington DC and Baltimore that have rejected A.A. but STILL have high infection rates.

If one argues that failing to educate someone about "safe sex practices" within the formal setting of education makes the institution culpable for the problematic outcomes - why is it that this same standard is not applied to the "Mission Accomplished Zones" which operate with the policies that the social/cultural critics prefer and yet the problem remains?

It doesn't matter.
Their only goal was to hit against a perceived "Right Wing" initiative, NOT to solve or mitigate the problem in question.  This is usually enough to retain mass appeal.

Now That Sexting Is Driving Unprotected Sex What Will Be The "Anti-Right Wing" Talking Point On The Matter
