HuffPo's Kelly Smith Beaty Does Not Properly Characterize The Problem Of "Black Atlanta"

AOL Huffington Post's Kelly Smith Beaty wrote an article recently asking for "The Real Black Atlanta To Please Stand Up".

I was working on a post that responded to her article that I have deleted out of draft mode.
This new post is the result of hearing several conversations on "Black Wing Grievance Talk Radio" about the possible damage that "Bread & Circuses Black Reality Television Shows" are causing to the "Black Atlanta Brand".

(The original post focused on how [according to the local syndication of her article] Mrs Beaty grew up in Fayette County Georgia.  I wondered why her family actively chose to remove her out of the 'Mission Accomplished Counties [Fulton, Dekalb, Clayon] and instead chose to establish roots in one of the 'Southside Republican dominated counties that had been accused of RACISM as they resisted morphing into 'Atlanta'.   Ironically the "Black Flight Progressives" are increasingly turning their backs upon 'Atlanta Living' and are moving to places where there is less drama in the schools and home values have fallen less precipitously or not at all in some cases.  The point is not to promote 'Republicansim" but to note how those who rejected what Mrs Beaty has a problem with and have moved - they were attacked by many of the same people who now see that things have gone too far in the "Atlanta consciousness" of today.
This blog is dedicated to my struggle against the people who want to stake their claim to power over the Black community but who also run from the obligation to field a working order that develops our people.   They are more expert in indicting other people than they are in appraising the part that they have played in the present dysfunction )

First of all, let's be real.
There is no force that damns the branding of Atlanta than does the STREET PIRATE.
Metro Atlanta is a very violent city.   The real rebuttal to "NeNe" and "Lil Scrappy" taking up so much of Black people's conscious attention is to compel the "Civil Rights Pharisees" to make "Street Pirate On Black Assault" a CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION.

The fact that so many of our people are assaulted on "Rev Joseph E Lowery Blvd" tells me that the "Street Pirates Don't Give A Damn" about the Civil Rights Heroes that some seek to venerate.  It is time to try something different beyond living through the ghosts of old "Jim Crow", so that better results can be produced.

If they did nothing more than assume that a Black assailant is 100% equal to a White man or Police officer BECAUSE he developed his consciousness from WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY, thus pointing to an area of dysfunction that needed to be tended to, this would start the ball rolling in addressing the void that these "bread & circuses distribution shows" fill among our people.

With the lack of CONSCIOUSNESS and PURPOSE - high calorie, low nutrition substitutes prove filling.

The problem that I had with Mrs Beaty's post is that she never got around to linking her desires for Blacks to venerate "Black successful heroes" (the Russell family) with the present void in GOVERNANCE among the ranks of our people.

We have been focusing on GOVERNMENT - the overlay force of "officialdom" that we have fused our "Black Community Development Consciousness" with the attainment of the elective and policy making offices there in.   Further the politics (party and ideological loyalties) that have subsumed these government seats of power have drawn upon our emotions thus completing the grand diversion.

I would suggest that Mrs Beaty correct her aspirations but transitioning into an alternative that promotes "A Clear Vision Forward" and LIMITS on what can be done in "our name".  The present scheme of veneration and vicarious living has failed tremendously.

"The Housewives Of Atlanta" and "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" play upon the spirit of  "popularity" and materialism that is resident within our community.   They are merely film versions of junior high lunch room fights in which the mass audience is made to stand on tables and chairs to watch the theatrical production in the center ring.

The underlying theme of this blog - despite the fact that some believe it to be too negative and condescending - is the fact that there is indeed an OPPORTUNITY COST suffered by our people was the "Black Rank & File" allow too much of the consciousness about themselves to be outsourced to nefarious forces.

These forces who know what is appealing to our people per our PRESENT PREVAILING CONSCIOUSNESS will always provide well seasoned "Self-Chum" as they know what can be ingested, to the delight of our critical palate.

With all due respect - despite the loud chorus of outrage over the main characters that are triggering shame and provoking this present reflection - the best thing that NeNe and Momma Dee can do to be restored to their full faith and credit with the Black Community (in its present consciousness) is for them to get out on the campaign trail and work to use the relationship forged with the Black views to translate into INVESTMENTS on behalf of the political party apparatus that the main critics of these shows are themselves attached to.

Why is this so crazy when it has happened before?
