"The Secret Diary Of A Black Progressive Fundamentalist Bigot"
This is a better title of to describe the "self-breast exam" that the article on "Black Progressive politics" that appeared in a recent edition of "Boston Review" magazine. The video below captures the primary arguments made within the article.
Bottom line - No PROGRESSIVE ever gets fired for failing to Develop Black America despite taking in abundant investments of our "consciousness" and "ballots" with the promises to do so. PERIOD.
The problem is not with the "Progressive" but with the lack of Institutional Integrity Enforcement WITHIN, thus leaving the interests of the Black Community to be usurped into "struggles" that are not for OUR development interests. If this was not true - someone would have been FIRED!!

This is what happens when the instinctual self-serving nature of man is not mitigated and redirected by the presence of INSTITUTIONS that can channel these tendencies into more productive and corrective ends for their long term benefit.
The Black community in its present state does NOT suffer from a lack of "Social Justice". We suffer from failed Institutional Governance Theories and Policies, the flaws showing up when "The Struggle" acquires more power and responsibility but fails to understand its new disposition, rising to the challenge that its new responsibilities call for.
As I have stated before "Progressivism Is Inorganic". It is a "struggle meme" that is based upon INDICTMENTS against a greater force that is "oppressing it". It is fundamentally a 'Lumpen Proletariat" movement that bonds together "The Vulnerable Masses", capitalizing upon their grievances as it harvests them into ballots in support of their cause.
When it is seen as "the last man standing" and must now functionally become "the system" that it has for so long struggled against - it chooses to retain its ideological roots over effective outcomes, EXPANDING the perimeter of its indictment so that it can regenerate itself in their fight against the enemy, changing its focus outward to where this enemy now resides.
The Inability To Deny Itself
Every popular world religion makes mention of man's "self-serving" spirit. The cultural portion of their religion compels the believer to "deny himself", making sacrifices today for some greater benefit in the future.
I have little doubt that, in the mind of the author Michael C. Dawson, former activist, that he believes that Black Americans should "deny ourselves" from splintering away from the "gravitational pull of the Progressive Struggle", adopting new theories in our own fit of selfishness and ultimately causing "the church" to splinter. Progressivism IS the common force that binds us together. That gives us our "Black Consciousness" as "people who live at the bottom of the social order".
The late opinion writer George S. Schuyler was correct when he noted that there is no unique "Black Struggle". There is only a "Progressive struggle" with a "lampblacked" coating upon it. Many are fooled by the "rituals of blackness" that the embedded confidence men use to hide their inner core as they seek draw in other Blacks into "the struggle". Our "racial grievances" are the hooks upon which they affix their tethers.
The problem that I have with Black Progressive-Fundamentalism is that it necessarily paints Black people as "damaged goods from slavery and racism" as a means of compelling modern day Black people to make continued investments of our key valuables into its cause:
- Our Black Community Development Consciousness
- Our Equal Black Ballots
What people fail to realize is that the later is more valued than the former per the value system that the "American Political Domain" erects . In order to harvest the "Equal Black Ballots" it is necessary for to deploy "Embedded Confidence Men" to operate unchecked within our midst, sculpting the narratives that Black people receive via the media and common talk. There has been no more powerful historians that have molested the truth of the real world during our time as freemen than those who operate today in their goals of raiding our community's fortunes for their own use.
Ironically though even the most learned Black Progressive intellectual will point to "American Slavery" and "African Colonialism" as the source of our present inferiority which necessitates our "congregational bond" they can't bring themselves to see that the INSTITUTIONS that "favorable people" now occupy per their decades of advocacy are INFERIOR in their ability to sculpt the consciousness of the Black youth that matriculate through them in the "conscious finishing" process that these institutions are supposed to provide our people.
I have concluded that education or popular acceptance as a "public intellectual" is not evidence of "Black Inferiority" having been scraped from one's consciousness. They often are merely more erudite and articulate in promoting the notion.
These same operatives that seek to keep the "congregation" together using all sorts of tricks and conscious diversions (Racism Chasing) want the casual observer to believe that through their antics which show that they believe Black people to be reactionary, emotional creatures we will build up a "Strong Black Consciousness" about ourselves as a result.
As the heat of the Presidential elections in the "American Political Domain" rises we see that the forces that control the narrative for Black people are talking more about RACISM than about demands to see our "Community 401k Portfolio Balance" before we agree to make another deposit - throwing good pieces of gold after bad. They understand that they CANNOT POINT TO the present conditions WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY as the basis for their argument in which they play the role of the "Black Community Investment Advisers", our development as a people through the institutions that they now control as evidence of their competence.
They instead must craft a team concept - in the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" - the main purpose of the Michael C Dawson article. Then they must point to the continued existence of UNMITIGATED RACISM which still today thrashes all feeble attempts by the Progressive Joint Venture to achieve a bit of "Social Justice" that they can claim as their own.
At no point is the article framed by the notion that Black people have interests that are separate and distinct from the METHODOLOGY (politics or religion for example) through which we will seek to achieve them OR the PLATFORM (progressivism or conservatism) which define the methodological rituals and norms. The griots who craft the narrative of our present standing as a people in the struggle seek to make these commonly accepted methodological and ritualistic assumptions as our ESSENCE as a people.
Notice toward the end of the article Mr Dawson talks about avoiding narrow views and rigid dogmas. He is NOT talking about being open minded beyond "progressivism". He is talking about "INTRA-progressive" considerations. The late political scientist Dr Ronald Walters - the man who more effectively "operationalized" Bayard Rustin's "VOTE For Your Black Community Salvation" theory better than the original author - said about retaining the "Black voting bloc" - we are to express our factionalism during the "Democratic Primary" and after the blood-letting stand unified during the general election. Mr Dawson and other Progressive-Fundamentalists seek for Black people to try a number of different progressive strategies as they shop for those which cast the strongest gravitational pull of UNITY among the struggle. With this fusion having been cast - the congregation is in a stronger position to go out and fight Conservatism, Capitalism and White Supremacy.
Ironically the average Black Progressive-Fundamentalism can't see that THEIRS IS A MOVEMENT that IS:
- Conservative - as they seek to protect the the dogma of what amounts to be a 'Secular Progressive' movement. (The term "Progressive Fundamentalist" is not an oxymoron as many people have challenged me on. One can see all challenges as needing "progressive" solutions and thus, per their dogmatic application of their analysis and solutions they are entrenched in the rituals of "progressivism as the universal cure)
- Capitalist - Any notion of increased "social justice" in America is founded upon the finances of a nation that has $15,000,0000,000,000 in debt that is presently capitalized in the financial market with US Treasuries. While they might seek to distribute these capitalistic funds with "quasi-socialistic" principles that they cleave to, absent the capitalistic mega structure - their lofty sentiments would remain mere thoughts, just like the modern day Laotian who dreams to build the tallest building in the world in the middle of her village with everyone gainfully employed within
- White Supremacy - the popular Black Political Discourse is "Non-White White Supremacist" in the promotion of its priorities. The sight of a White woman with gubernatorial power, pointing her finger at a Black man who's position in the "American Political Domain" makes him the most powerful man in the world - has them motivated to put aside the PRIORITY discussions on the fate of the education of Black children, the questions of why after more than 60 years of investments of our hopes - we remain with the highest unemployment rates, why our 13% population is over-represented as 50% of the homicide victims - most by our own hand? Since their goal is CONGREGATIONAL UNITY and not a FIX.........the SUPERIOR ASSAULT by a White ideological adversary trumps all discussions of these more important matters.
Ironically if they did sever themselves as such, their personal experience of struggle in the context of a Black community that had failed to produce he institutional infrastructure that allowed them to apply their productive capacity in exchange for a salary - would force them to recommit to propagating proposals that are vetted for the EFFECTIVENESS and not just for the POPULARITY.
