Georgia Tech Official, Chris Evans, Cleared Of Wrongdoing In Scandal

Despite his son's claims against me - I NEVER ATTACKED HIS FATHER AS A CROOK in my original post.

I stated that I had had several conversations with his father over the years that Georgia Tech held its student technology competition.

I stated that I was happy to see that he was a "brother" with management influence in this top notch, highly competitive institution.

I expressed DISAPPOINTMENT in him being caught up in the scandal.

I have no intimate access or knowledge of the inner-workings of that specific group at the university to know if Mr Evans was falsely indicted or was guilty.

I simply saw a "familiar, friendly face on the news" and responded to the news.

If, his son Alexander C Evans wishes to have a further discussion on:
  • Don't believe everything you see on the news until the discipline of "justice" is applied - they won't do a follow up after the damage of the leading headlines, announcing the entire story and helping a man regain his public integrity
  • An indictment is just the prosecutor's side of the story.  Let's wait until a judge and jury renders a verdict.........................
.............then A.C.E. will find that I am more in agreement than he might believe otherwise.

In any event, sir, I AM HAPPY THAT YOUR FATHER HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE DRAGNET.  He clearly worked hard and strategically to obtain the position that he had.   The University should work to get him back into the system at a similar role that this false accusation took away from him.

I am HAPPY about the news.
Are YOU happy ACE?

From the Reuters story

ATLANTA, Feb. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- After a lengthy investigation by the GBI and the Georgia Attorney General's Office, former Georgia Tech employee, Chris Evans, has been cleared of RICO charges filed against him in September 2010.
Evans was the director of operations for Tech's Georgia Electronic Design Center. He was arrested, along with two professors, and charged with misappropriating Georgia Tech funds for the benefit of a company owned by the two professors. On January 19, 2012 all charges against Evans were dismissed.
Evans had been terminated from Georgia Tech in May 2010 based on similar allegations and arrested four months later. "Chris Evans did not misappropriate funds and did not knowingly help anyone else misappropriate funds," stated Evans' attorney, Bob Rubin of Peters, Rubin & Sheffield. "The arrest was premature - the investigation was ongoing, and we appreciate the Attorney General's willingness to look at our evidence, which exonerates Chris," added Rubin.
Evans has been unemployed since his termination from Georgia Tech. "This has been a nightmare and a tremendous hardship for me and my family. I am glad it has reached this point, but I have a long way to go to try and pick up the pieces and work to get my life back on track. I want to express my appreciation to all those who continue to support me," said Evans.
The case against the two professors is ongoing.
