I bring up the tragic tale of Sheriff Elect Derwin Brown who was killed in a political assassination in modern day Georgia (year 2000) in order to remove from the table the notion that "THIS CAN'T HAPPEN AGAIN" as a defense of the silence that is going on about the present fiasco in Clayton County Georgia right now.
Southwest of Dekalb County Georgia is another "Mission Accomplished" county in metro Atlanta - Clayton County. As the county celebrated the fact that "favorable people" were in power as the demographic changes in the county had translated into political power, their choice to "live vicariously" through the people in power who "look just like them" and "make them proud" left them vulnerable to people who got drunk with power, losing their conscious focus in their job of serving the people.
Clayton County has gone through several years of chaos on the school board which had them lose their accreditation. There were fights on the county governing board that lead to several lawsuits filed between the elected officials. In the recent past the battle in the sheriff's office made national news.
The fallout from all of this is that more "Black Flight Progressives" exited Clayton County, resettling into the "conservative run" counties to the immediate south of Clayton (Henry, Fayette, Coweta).
The "moral conscious of America" that typically insert themselves into situations where Black people's interests are being hurt - seem strangely silent when it comes to handling their "Permanent Friends" as they bring shame upon the constituency.
There is no better time than the present - on the front end of a conflict that has not yet turned violence - to put a stop to a series of foolish actions that threatens to take the community down with it.
POWER has a great intoxicant.
One of the major failings within the Black Community is - after so many decades of struggling to obtain it there are far too many people that are fearful to speak out against the CORRUPTION OF POWER, lest the "old forces of oppression" exploit our present discord and return to power, putting the boot back on our necks.
The truth is that this line of reasoning is akin to "Stop Snitching". The embedded confidence man who stands to benefit from the protection racket is also the force that is failing the community. They are ultimately not the problem though. The RANK & FILE that remain sheepishly silence should be viewed as the problem for they have chosen to go along with the fraud. They agreed that the dangling of this old foe - and the "chain rattling sounds" that were generated for effect by the confidence man's "iPhone" ring tone - was more important than the choice to execute INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY PROTECTION, throwing out any people who fail to uphold these high standards.
Where Are The Civil Rights Pharisees?
As they "lead from the rear", watching the news and then pouncing on those issues where they can render an indictment - the "Civil Rights Pharisees" that purport to be the "Consciousness of the Black Community and America" are always Missing In Action. There will be no public rebuke of all of these operatives, leaving on our "Slavery Struggle" in their press conference as they tell all of the combatants "Our ancestors did not go through beatings and toil just for you to come along as occupants of the seats of power that used to be the source of our oppression and act A DAMNED FOOL. After we used our Equal Black Ballots to put you in the seat......YOU choose to pick up the chair and throw it at your political adversary. The black community is now on the hook to pay the liability lawsuit because the chair was thrown while you were on the clock.".
