NOTE: This Commercial Is Presently Running On The "CCTV" Satellite Channel (2012)

At this point there is no specific details regarding the agenda of the "Chinese State-Run Media" organization, CCTV, and its plans the new network focused on African affairs but under the Chinese brand.
It stands to reason though that since there is a faction within the various nations in Africa that are wary of the incursion by the Chinese in building up production operations and infrastructure that a news media agent that is committed to painting a "good news" picture about what the Chinese are doing is a very wise investment for their agenda. Instead of depending on the local news media forces to provide the narrative about the Chinese, CCTV is present to tell their perspective on the story. In addition CCTV is able to leverage its vast financial resources to grab market share of some of the existing but undercapitalized entities that exist in various African nations.
I am not mad at CCTV for doing this. The real question is "What are the Africans doing to retain ultimate control over their message, their economic development, their INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY"?
- 2012 - CCTV News Africa - Job Listings - South Africa
- 2011 - Kenyan Editors In Massive CCTV Recruitment Raid - 200 Jobs
- 2010 - Xinhau and CCTV Lunch Satellite TV In Africa
- 2010 - CCTV Opens African Operation
- 2005 - Chinese TV Extends Its Reach Into Africa
On the one hand the new hires from Kenya will appreciate the "opportunity" that their sponsor, CCTV has afforded them. Over time these various television personalities, producers, editors and managers will gain valuable skills and might possibly matriculate into other media in their respective nations.
There is no doubt that a "brand" is being built, both by "CCTV" and the individual on-air personalities.
It is up to the Kenyans, etc, to keep a wary eye on what is happening around them and retain a baseline of understanding of the truth and then measure "CCTV Africa" against what they know to be so from other sources.
One thing is 100% certain - THEY ARE WATCHING "US", making note of the opportunities that our exposed consumer demands provide for them.
