TRIPOLI - U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta arrived in Tripoli Saturday, taking advantage of the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi in an eight-month civil war to become the first Pentagon chief to set foot on Libyan soil.
But Panetta has indicated that the U.S. will give more time to gain control of the militias that overthrew Gadhafi before determining how to help the fledgling government.
"The last thing you want to do is to try to impose something on a country that has just gone through what the Libyans have gone through," said Panetta on Friday before landing in Tripoli.
"They've earned the right to try to determine their future. They've earned the right to try to work their way through the issues that they're going to have to confront," he said.
Libya's weak interim government is struggling to assert control two months after the capturing and killing of Gadhafi.
Last night on WRFG's (The "Progressive Information Station") "The Friday Night Drum" I listened to poet laureate Amiri Baraka stood before a stage of "anti-State Sponsored Execution" Blacks and ran down the litany against American imperialist exploits - including slavery and the colonial exploitation of Africa.
He went out of his way to call out "Clarence, Condi and Colin" but for some strange reason skipped over the "Commander In Chief" of the Allied American Military Power - who engaged with 4 African colonial powers to topple a sovereign African nation in an international coup.

I am not sure if you who are loyal progressives, unbought and unsold, realize that as people appraise you based upon your CONSISTENCY - your inability to admit that the "American War Machine" largely operates as it does, regardless of who sits in the chair of the "Commander In Chief" - causes you to unnecessarily compromise yourself as you are caught responding differently per your desire to avoid an INDICTMENT of your "Permanent Friends".
I still have my hand written notes from the "Anti-War On Libya Rally" that took place this past summer at Atlanta's "Shrine Of The Black Madonna" featuring Cynthia McKinney and Ramsey Clark. Despite the fact that they argued that "Reagan dropped a bomb in Ghadahfi's living room and killed the daughter of Ghadahfi" while "President Obama blew up the whole house, killing several members"......it was a strange event at the end of a "protest rally" to hear the panel full of leftist all agree that they were going to VOTE in 2012 FOR the man who was a part of the machine that they came to protest against.
Despite the fact that Obama had finished off Ghadahfi - they were all convince that a "Progressive in power with a shady international/ military policy" will do more for Black people domestically than a right-wing Republican that would have them pissed both internationally and domestically.
While they try to assume the mantle of Dr King - it was he who saw international injustice and thought this to be a PRIORITY over any domestic program that was at risk in "Speaking Truth To Power".
For those who claim his mantel today - they don't want to risk hurting the REELECTION CHANCES of "The Power" so they prefer to "speak truth to him" in a private White House meeting - where they are allowed to take home souvenir napkins for mounting next to their "Obama Limited Edition Commemorative Plates".
