What a perfect tie in with my last article about "Caribbean Culture".
A few months ago I was in "The Underground Atlanta" at a Caribbean restaurant. I had two editions of "Rolling Out" magazine that I had picked up while walking through "The Underground".
As I read the articles in both editions I saw a "consistent voice" in which all of the articles came from ONE CONSCIOUSNESS, one perspective, one voice, ONE AGENDA.
While I believe that opinion writer Stanley Crouch - NOT a Black Conservative, despite what "The Grio.com" tagged him as after he critiqued them for pushing shady characters upon us in the name of feeding "Bread and Circuses" in the entertainment domain - was inaccurate for missing the political agenda of "The Grio" - the label is more appropriate for the local Atlanta propaganda vehicle known as 'Rolling Out" magazine.
In the balance between promoting entertainment and promoting politics - both are cast from the same mold. "Rolling Out" merely has a more detectable slant toward entertainment. In both cases their ideological agenda is the promotion of "Black Progressive-Fundamentalist" as just as the Root and other "also rans" promote.
The entire read of "Rolling Out Magazine" is an attempt to both promote and fend off the prevailing Black Establishment - the "Black Racial Services Machine" and their entrenched control over "the Black Agenda". With this crown comes control over this "agenda", the control over the gateway of who is "in" and out" and, most importantly appraisal of the EFFECTIVENESS of the "Black Agenda's" efforts. To be clear they are not void of noting that "things are not working out so well within the Black community". They all conspire to both path themselves on the back for what they have collectively done AND project any shortcomings toward what we must "Struggle Harder To Do" in the future. To be sure you cannot get fired in Black America is you are loyal to the progressive tenor and tone. .
The editorial bias of all of these rags assumes that despite all of the present problems within the Black Community - the progressive "Black Racial Services Machine" is correct in their thoughts, methodology and activism. The resulting problems that remain among 'The Least Of These' is merely evidence of "work to be done" and the need for continued unity as we "struggle together". Ultimately it is this promotion of 'congregational unity' over effective results that sets up the "insider trading" that I frequently speak of.
At the same time - just as "The Occupations" main point of hypocrisy is that they are unable to fundamentally repudiate the exorbitant wealth and debauchery in the present "Generation Next" world of entertainment and sports and thus step on the toes of fellow Progressive-Fundamentalists - so is the case with the consciousness shown in "Rolling Out Magazine" about the subset that they focus on which is "Black entertainment and sports" personalities and extravagance. They can't bite the hand that feeds them as no one would agree to appear on their pages.
Rolling Out Magazine - "We Saw Michael Jordan Kick In The Front Door To A Black Person's Home To Steal Their Money, Throw Shoes At Their Head And Then Underpay The Indonesian Workers"
OK. The author of the story did not say what is in the subsection title but such a mental transference was intended.
I even give credit to the many posters on "The Rolling Out" web site that rebutted the author's claims about Michael Jordan's culpability.
With this particular analysis I won't repeat their arguments. You can go to the web site and see this done in a sufficient manner.
The more compelling argument for me to make is a "Dark Matter Analysis" of the author Terry Shropshire's views and ask "What If Rolling Out Assessed The Black Racial Services Machine's Influence On The Present Black American Consciousness As They Indicted Michael Jordan's Influence And Missed Opportunity To Correct Their Missteps?"
I feel comfortable in extending the views of Terry Shropshire up to the corporate viewpoint of "Rolling Out". Again a quick read of the magazine will show this common voice on all of the pages.
(Side note: I wonder what ever happened to the poet that they used to feature in the last section of the magazine? His views of the world would have me "SMDH" after reading them in the barbershop that I used to go to which carried "Rolling Out". The very same feeling I get when I listen to some operatives on Black-wing talk radio today.)
The (mostly) Black people who were huddled outside of various malls around the nation to purchase the new "Air Jordans" - and these were high end malls and not the stereotypical "ghetto malls" - all had some common force that compelled them to show up in force to obtain a pair of sneakers. The article above rightly called out this consciousness shown and the resulting chaos as unacceptable. "Conditioning" is indeed an accurate label. The author merely was inaccurate as he/she sought to affix blame to retired NBA player and now team owner Michael Jordan.
Again, instead of refuting the arguments in the story from "Rolling Out" my goal is to model the framework of the argument and then apply it to other "Confidence Men" that have a far greater impact upon the present prevailing consciousness in Black America today. Such a framework allows me to capture the "outrage" shown against one expression of "unconciousness" and then transfer it to another instance, allowing me to observer the reactions from the same "panel of judges".
Of course my agenda is then to question "Rolling Out" and other "Black Racial Service Machine" press agents as to WHY they don't call out these other, more powerful forces who do far more comprehensive damage to our community. I am of the opinion that they desire to avoid stepping up the proverbial "Ingrown Toenail" and thus cause themselves great pain as they are a part of the organism to which this toe is affixed.
From the article:.
Michael Jordan bares a lot of responsibility for these obscene snapshots of imbecility and retarded priorities. Urban children have been killing one another over Jordan attire and memorabilia since the 1980s. Yet, he has not uttered a single syllable to condemn the behavior or offer condolences. He most certainly has never lobbied to make his shoe prices more in line with the demographic that inordinately patronize his products. He just shoves his bloodied hands in his tailored suits, where those collected bundles of Benjamins are, and keeps it pushing towards his next exploitative deal and opportunistic endeavor. Expecting him to voice a word of reason or articulate anything that resembles reason and caring, is like expecting to see water flowing uphill or see a thunderstorm indoors.
Isiah Thomas has put together a black think tank where they are developing stratagem to obliterate the deplorable conditions that afflict African Americans. Magic Johnson made a resolute pledge to build businesses in the black community and employ urbanites and he followed through with it. Michael Jordan will not muddy his hands trying to clean up anything except the dirty money he makes from exploitation here in the U.S. and abroad.
“It’s not in his DNA,” former NBA nemesis Isiah Thomas tried explain to me about Jordan at the American Black Film Festival in South Beach this past summer when I pointed out Jordan’s total disinterest in the very community from which he has amassed millions from in shoe sales. And, actually, Thomas was trying to defend the infamously apolitical Jordan.
Above is the "money shot" of Terry Shroshire's argument. I don't believe that I have ever read one passage of an article that contains so many elements of the INDICTMENT that I have for the "Black Racial Services Machine's" aggregate operations, applied erroneously to one INDIVIDUAL - Michael Jordan.
Let me model the arguments.
- A certain brand is built up to which Black people achieve affinity for.
- Masses of Black people begin to live vicariously through this figure.
- The figure in question begins to leverage the group "confidence" that "the brand" has amassed to sell them other, related items in order to "cash in" on their confidence
- As evidence of the VOID IN BLACK COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE becomes instantiated as the "Black Rank & File" exhibits behavior that is ultimately not in our community's long term best interests and which proves embarrassing .....................
- The figure at the heart of the brand does not provide "constructive (corrective) feedback", because it might cause his "profit" to atrophy. He instead wishes to be a "prophet for profit" in the spirit of "Let Them Eat Cake"
- He looks past the carnage where there is "blood on his hands" and looks around for the next "exploitative deal and opportunistic endeavor".
- The masses of Black People are too smitten in their present conscious confinement to see him for who he really is. They dutifully follow along for they have pride in his position after longing for a man of such stature against a backdrop of those who they believed would never allow a "person like THEM" to rise to. Their vicarious living makes them confuse "THEM" for "HIM". (Their personal interests for HIS personal interests)
Some hanging bullet point items that didn't fit in with the flow but need to be added:
- Of the "Reference Examples" that satisfy the author's expectations - there is no reference to the PROPORTIONALITY of the "Talented Tenth" in addressing the totality of the problem.
- The fact that "THEY DID" is more important than any consideration of the SCALE and the ARCHITECTURE (top down) of the intended solution
- The very consciousness of "Talented Tenth" points to a small few who were "exceptionally blessed" - granting benefit among "The Least Of These" - altruistically "doing for THE RACE" and receiving "the CONFIDENCE" of the people in return.
- Their continued defense is assured once this relationship is fused
- The question of the ORGANIC COMPETENCIES that are summarily pushed out from the top into the reservoir of the people, allowing more of them to climb up is not specifically noted in the works of the "Reference Model" - only their "Good Works".

Now I understand that quite a few of you expect me to plug in President Obama for Michael Jordan and then rerun the model that I have constructed (more accurately "collected").
This is where you are wrong.
President Obama is NOT the proper figure to place in the model for appraisal. The BLACK RACIAL SERVICES MACHINE is the more accurate candidate.
President Obama is merely a VEHICLE (one of many) through which the "Black Racial Services Machine" intends to achieve its ideological goals on the backs of Black people and our "BLACK COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONSCIOUSNESS AND HOPES".
You don't need to look to me to answer the question. If you cast an eye and an ear their way they will tell you "NO" but not with the intent of abandoning what they are doing due to failure. Instead they choose to remain in the catbird seat, demanding that anyone with a more brilliant idea to come along and CONVINCE THEM that they have drugs with actual pharmacological benefit to replace their sugar pill that depends so much on "Slavery/Jim Crow/ Prison Industrial Complex/ Police Brutality/ Republicans / Corporate Malfeasance" - you know "White Supremacy" for short.
What they can't see is that what they claim as Michael Jordan's "abandonment of the RESPONSIBILITY" for what he has sculpted is what I have been calling "Establishment Authority Repudiation" among the Black Racial Services Machine.
As they aggregate POWER both directly over our community consciousness and then in their "joint venture partnerships" - they seek to DENY any culpability for their actions. Even the most 'learned Negro from Harvard' will point to our "Slave past" as the reason why the "Black Racial Services Machine" has not managed to make this force of history attenuate as they successfully take over more Black schools, having SOLD us on this intention.
They are skilled at "Bait And Switch". The presently 'Occupied' over Black 'community school' which is failing to educate our children up to the standard of our community needs becomes an indictment because White folks won't agree to share Black kids poverty equally in all schools in certain school districts in North and South Carolina. The claim of "White Supremacy" has a conjoined twin that sucks up more of the nutrients from the blood. It is called "Non-White White Supremacy". It is often unseen because it is blocked out by the "Negro state of consciousness".
Detroit - the original "Chocolate City", the showcase of "Black Pride", "Black Power" - Black Political Conquest is now in financial arrears, just like its big brother - The United States Of America.
While Americans fear that the Chinese holder of US Treasury bonds might take over America - the Civil Rights Pharisees are looking at those blasted state Republicans that are trying to make a run on "The D".
In their skillful execution of the confidence that they have built up among their constituency they artfully switch the INDICTMENT from "Is The City Viable and its leadership Competent and its 'Business Model' for existence effective?" over to These
They work to place Black people on the "Racial Defensive" against external attack.
As we see they are not above transacting in "Black Inferiority" IF doing so will assist them in holding onto power at a point where REASON says that "Good Governance" would have those who wrecked the ship to be tossed overboard.
"Black Inferiority" you say? The present promotion of the 'Black Poster Child' - unable to acquire photo ID to vote as being "disenfranchised". The strategy is, once again, to place Black people on the defensive. Then the call that everyone get "carded" at the polls is said to be "BLACK voter suppression" as Black people as a group are less likely to carry photo ID.
There will be no introspection which asks WHY after several decades in power there is still sufficient cause to see this as a threat rather than the void in uplift. More to the point it allows them to temporarily look away from the conditions of Detroit, Flint, Newark or the sections of Columbia South Carolina where these rates of "undocumented people" make for a "victim class".
I challenged everyone to swap out the argument about "photo ID" and replace it with those who lack "vaccinations" and then note the turn about in arguments as we now hear some say that the program is "too expensive" to ensure universal coverage. There is no need for them to argue why getting everyone "documented" is a bad thing. They instead see that by assigning nefarious intent to the enemy - this is enough to get certain Black people of a certain consciousness to follow along - abandoning their grievances over how the machine is running their schools and economics.
SELF-ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY ENFORCEMENT IS THE BASIS FOR LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT
If only there was more clarity of mind in seeing that the very things that some can articulate as opportunism and complicit silence within Michael Jordan (as he protects his vested interests) is the very same spirit that damns the Black Community per its present overlay of leadership.
The very same people demanding regulation, transparency in reporting and punitive fines on corporations, wealthy individuals and government entities - are loathed to see that THIS is their own flaw.
They understand that in as much as they have the confidence of the Black Community through "(Civil Rights) Branding" they can label everything as "The Struggle" and get away with it. (Do you recall when Don King told his family and entourage to "Bill it to Tyson"? Do you recall what happened to Tyson's finances as a result? This is what the Black Racial Services Machine does to the Black Rank & File's "Pot Of Gold" today. )
Until the Black Rank & File gets its own lawyers and accountants in a show that its INTERESTS is separate and distinct from that of the IDEOLOGICAL/POLITICAL OVERLAY - we will continue to be shown "Air Jordans" while our loot is taken by the Embedded Confidence Men who snarl loudly, mostly for effect of making noise for the protection of their turf.
