(This post is done in the context of my having watched the entire prime time line up of MSNBC for the last few weeks.)
I "get it" with regard to the differences in reporting (and propaganda) styles between conservatives and liberals in the media. Each of them play to the tastes of their respective constituencies.
On "The Rachel Maddow Show" the latest indictment on her "Keep Your Enemies On Trial So You Don't Have To Indict Your Friend For Their Failure" show, Ms Maddow takes Republican Newt Gingrich to task for suggesting that the "Occupiers" be made to work cleaning up public buildings including schools.
From this Ms Maddow ran her mocker of Gingrich - indicting him for "Child Labor Law" violations with his suggestion. Then she went on to list all of the Republican proposals around the nation which proposed to violate the "Child Labor Laws".
The message is - "If the GOP has its way......................the clock will be turned back to the dark days of this nation".
Now of course when they point out the great days of this nation when the unions were strong......the Progressives aren't compelled to make note of the high level of racial hostility that existed at that time as well.
When The Black Community Disconnects Its Political Consciousness From The Real World Issues Within The Black Community
One repetitive story that we hear is the dilapidated Black public school building in "da hood". Education activists such as Jonathan Kozol have written books regarding how poor and minority kids are forced to sit 7 hours each day in inferior accommodations. Dirty bathrooms with broken facilities and absent toilet paper is the image that jumps out at you. Paint peeling from ceilings and windows that do not open.
The combination of the inferior building caused by "benign neglect" coupled with the mockery hoisted by Maddow over the "clean up the mess that you have made yourself" message from Gingrich forms a large portion of the political talking points that one might hear in Black political discourse.
The same consciousness which sets up "union work rules" in which one worker of a particular job class is not allowed to do another task that another job class has in its job description is present here.
In the meme of "Blaming the Victim" - we are to be outraged at the thought that the Black community might have a "community service day" in which the local community arrives in front of the school with paper towels, bottles of bleach, cans of paint and trash bags. They do so with the audacity that THEY are going to assert their responsibility for ensuring that the building that their children sit in during the school day is clean and functional.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina we learned that when the situation demands it you "Do what you see is needed and then ask for forgiveness later if your helpful actions violate the rules". Most rational people would "understand".
The cost of the acceptance of Ms Maddow's mockery is that hundreds of thousands of Black kids will enter such school buildings in which the community said "That is not our job. We are above being janitors."
They fail to see that their children go into accommodations that they would not tolerate in their own house.
“Take Back The Black Community Consciousness". It has been hijacked by embedded operatives who don't intend to develop the COMPETENCIES within. We once controlled this consciousness, focusing our activism directly upon our permanent interests. Today the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" has us as starters and some believe that this playing time translates into absolute progress for our people. My goal is to hold our permanent interests in their faces, forcing them to explain their actions.
