On the weekends in my house there is usually a collection of (Black women) people. My wife's friends and family.
I have discovered that one sure shot way to draw their attention into the television is to tune to A&E's "Parking Wars". This is a show which follows the escapades of People, their cars and the city Parking Enforcement. They ticket, boot, tow cars that have parking violations. When you mess with people's cars you typically provoke anger and cussing. Philadelphia and Detroit are the primary backdrops for this show. Black people are the most common figures - both in parking enforcement and parking violators.
As I think about it - this show fits in where
....have left off.
Instead of showing violence and property crimes "Parking Wars" shows how desperate cities have become for revenue collection AND how dependent people are in their car as a necessary tool for transportation.
Some people have amassed $1,000 in tickets, fines and towing fees.
They were already struggling and this unanticipated expense pushes them to the edge - often leading in verbal assaults.
