But I disgress.
Obama Budget Includes Little For Savannah Port
WASHINGTON -- Georgia will get only a fraction of the federal money state leaders say they need to expand the Port of Savannah, and other federal programs - from the CDC to aid for the poor - that could impact Georgians face potential funding cuts under President Barack Obama's budget.
The president's fiscal 2012 budget proposal includes $600,000 in "pre-construction" money for deepening the harbor, considered by state leaders as Georgia's biggest and most important economic development project.
State officials say they need $105 million in federal help this year to help with deepening the harbor so it can compete with other Atlantic ports when bigger ships begin passing through the Panama Canal in 2015. The total cost of deepening the harbor, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is expected to be about $551 million -- a huge amount for the state to bear without more federal aid.
Gov. Nathan Deal said he was disappointed in the lack of more funding for the port.
“Georgia and the Southeast greatly need this project, and the federal government has a constitutional authority and responsibility to pay for waterways and ports," Deal said in a statement. "The state of Georgia has done its part. Our state taxpayers are a willing partner in this effort."
Deal and Georgia's lawmakers in Washington vowed to continue seeking funding.
In this case the Republicans of Georgia have put aside their "Fiscal Conservatism" and have instead waged criticism of the "$3.73 trillion budget proposal" put forth by the Obama White House for failing to give the Port Of Savannah GA the money that they were seeking to deepen the port. After all - those Chinese made goods are heavy and we wouldn't want the bottom of the ship to scrape the mud and sludge at the of the sea lane into the port.
The disposition of the Republican governor of Georgia is quite disappointing considering the mammoth fiscal hole that is present in the national budget.
The best argument to prove the viability and vitality of this port is for the State of Georgia to put its money where its mouth is and ISSUE BONDS. Allow the investors who need to be sold on this value - fund this port expansion. With all of the economic benefit that is produced the state should receive increased tax and fee collections to pay back the bonds and the associated interest payment.
The best time for either side of the isle to show their integrity toward their principles is to watch what they do when left alone. Unfortunately for the new 100% Republican slate of leadership in the state of Georgia - they show that they too are dependent upon the "funny money" from Washington DC.
The biggest threat to this nation's long term fiscal health is the pilling of obligations upon our central government as a means of upholding a certain standard of living at the periphery - which the organic production there-in can't sustain. The magical printing press in DC produces holograms.

This is the reason I don't label myself a Republican! Most of them (Republican and Democrates) are just not conservative or fiscally responsible enough for me!
Fear not!
The ignorance and bigotry of all of the politicos are going to bring this nation to its knees.
All of our "natural growth" has been exhausted and we now have worthy competitors around the world.
Without LEADERSHIP, SACRIFICE and the will for all to PRODUCE while "Denying Themselves" - this nation is going to FEEL the "Fiscal Insolvency" that is ALREADY UPON US but for the "Magic Money" of the Fed.
