Too Much Time On Their Hands: Bernice King Declines Leadership Post Of SCLC After Contentious Election And Subsequent Organizational Dysfunction

MLK's daughter won't lead organization he founded

Bernice King says her vision differs from that of Southern Christian Leadership Conference

With all due respect the real question is "How ALIGNED is the 'SCLC's Vision' with the present NEEDS of the Black community?

The main reason why the SCLC and the NAACP have appeared in court in metro Atlanta with INTERNAL squabbles is because they are fighting over "who gets the corner office", a sign that the present challenges facing the Black Community is outside of their core competencies.

Until the day comes where they see a "Black Murder Victim" laying on the ground and CARE NOT who the slasher is - by his RACE or membership in "The Least Of These" protected class - these once great organizations will be forced to continue with their selective vision.

ATLANTA — The Rev. Bernice King says she will not assume the presidency of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

King was elected in October 2009 to lead the organization co-founded by her father, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., more than 50 years ago. Soon after, the SCLC's chairman was accused of financial mismanagement, and bitter infighting among the group's leaders landed the split factions in a courtroom.

King said Friday that she is shifting her attention to furthering her mother's legacy after dedicating "an exhaustive amount of time, energy and resources to assess the organization and prepare for my transition."

She says her vision did not align with that of the SCLC board. She notified board leadership of her decision on Thursday.
