Yes I can be the biggest critics of media personalities when they clearly hijack the Black community consciousness for nothing other than political and ideological purposes.
The "Bev Smith Show" for January 12, 2011 was one for the archives.
They focused EXCLUSIVELY on the situation in the island nation of Haiti and what THE HAITIANS needed to do to reorient their country after this tremendous blow.
This was the first time in a long time that I heard a "Black Talk Radio Show" that talked purely about what WE AS A COMMUNITY need to do. There was no mention of using a POLITICAL PARTY as a VEHICLE for our community development.
The people who I criticize most are not my enemies.
When I hear our interests hijacked as they expect all to be unified and loyal with the scheme - I am going to protest. When you show that you "get it" I have no problems applauding.
For the people of Haiti - "We All We Got" rings true more than New Orleans.
What Does Haiti Want To Be Known For?
Beautiful question.
The caller suggested that Haiti has no oil or raw materials that are otherwise attractive to "international big business" for exploitation.
- Agriculture
- Factories
- Tourism
Daniels notes that there are Haitians who are distributed throughout the diaspora who want to help their home country. They want the obstacles cleared so that they can create businesses in the nation to help their own people. This speaks to private property rights and respect for contracts and rational tax policy.
It appears that the "Iron Market" in the country was reopened as Irish Telecom mogel (Digicel) spent $12 million of his own money. Daniels was critical of the "Lumpen Bourgeois" of Haiti, millionaires who have not opened their wallets for investment in their own country.
I am able to ignore all of the US domestic oriented sniping because in the big picture you are doing something of great worth.
If WAOK fielded more of these type of programs my commentary would follow.
