This is my latest episode of my careful evaluation of Bill Maher and what makes him tick.
I believe that Bill Maher fits snuggly into the framework of what one would otherwise call a "bigot" IF he were a right-winger doing the exact same thing. I don't call names lightly so I will justify my position in a definitive manner.
The main elements of proof of Mr Maher's bigotry is:
- "Keeping is adversaries on trial" - hatefully attacking and sarcastically mocking them so that he does not have to justify his own positions. He merely rips theirs. The listener is never made to see that both "sides" have holes in their theories.
- "Working the crowd" in which they are made to go along with the bigot's conclusions lets they "get some" of what he is dishing out as well. Even those who don't agree with the bigot are pushed into silence lest they are called what took the form of a "Nigger Lover" when applied to the Civil Rights Movement
- Blaming all of the problems that the society faces upon his adversaries - beyond the point that they could be possibly responsible for in entirety - while being unable to articulate the part that his "favorable people" have played in the matter
- Heavy use of words like "Stupid", "Ignorant", "Dumb Asses" assigned to people for no other reason than they disagree with him.
- Though a bully - he alters his speech when a counter-force is present (ie: Bill O'Reilly present on this show or a 'Tea Bagger" panelist present - his hateful words are moderated because of the threat of push-back)
With all of that said this post is not specifically about Bill Maher. This is about you.
For those of you who are Black and Christian I have a question for you.
For those of us who are Black and Conservative we are always asked "When so many of your views are similar to the beliefs held by White Conservative Racists who hate Black people - does this fact cause you to recalibrate your views, making them in line with the best interests of your people?"
For the record - I am not a Republican. And, unlike most "Black Conservatives" I define myself outside of the "American political domain" and thus there is no high correlation between my views and political White conservatives where it counts the most. (See the title of the blog).
The key point of my argument thus far is to document the notion of: If "the enemy of my people is my friend" then I must consider who my friends are.
Bill Maher And Christianity
The purpose of this post is to grab the framework of "IF the enemy of my people is my friend then I must consider who my friends are" and directly challenge the Black Christian Progressive on their view of Bill Maher.
Bill Maher dislikes Christians (and all religions) and ideological conservatives.
Each week we can see various Black Progressives on his show, "yuking" it up with Maher as he goes after the conservative target. He even adds a bit of defensiveness on behalf of the "Black president" in the weak of the "White bigots" who are waging attacks upon him. This gives Maher plus points that he is right where it counts the most for most Black people.
But wait. I thought that you were a Christian?
Which do you prioritize the most?

Which do you prioritize the most?
- Your Ideology?
- Your Race?
- Your Religion?
- Which are "of this world" and will be stripped way during eternity?
- Per your beliefs - Which has the most prevalent power to shape the consciousness of the people you care about the most?
- Which would you feel most comfortable if the society chose to DEEMPHASIZE it?
- Which have you struggled the most for the society to not be prejudiced against?
The bottom line of it all is - Why didn't we hear any Black Christians who have asked the "Black Conservatives" to consider his friends to do the same thing in the religious domain against anti-Christians like Bill Maher?
As I listened to the entire comedy show from Maher my previous observations where affirmed. He and other bigots are forced to "keep their enemies on trial" so they never have to justify their own positions.
- Has Bill Maher ever had a stable and enduring relationship with a woman per his ethos? How does his affinity for Black women prove that he is "down" more than his ability to endure with one?
- If our community was full of "Bill Mahers" would we be a well balanced community or is he merely a bit player that is merely a comedic, anti-establishment anarchist?
Maybe it is time to set up a more transparent measure of all that you believe instead of depending on "group-ism" to fortify your belief that you are correct and everyone else is a bigot - and thus you are still forced to struggle.
