Census Sheds The Light: Its "The Labor Opportunities" Stupid!

As I had predicted earlier - certain people who hear the results of the US Census will talk purely in political terms, telling of the fate of the Democrats and Republicans; White folks and Black folks. This is the result of their fusion with the "American Political Domain". The chalk gridiron of the field that the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" will be played will be soon plotted out.

As I listened to the clip from "Democracy Now" and how they talked about the migration of people from one state to the next and the POLITICAL ramifications of this (ie: Cleveland is shrinking and thus may lose its congressional power) I was compelled to see that they are more interested in talking about the AFTER-EFFECTS than they are the MOTIVATING FORCES.

The US Census is but a measuring tool. The human beings have done their thing over 10 years, responding to the real world challenges that face them as they seek to obtain a higher standard of living, migrating in support of this. The US Census provides a MODEL from which understanding of our society can be derived. It is a tool for "feedback". This information provided does not guarantee that those who receive this information in will apply proper analysis of the information where it counts the most and thus render it as "constructive feedback". [ :-) ]

Its "Job Opportunities" and "The Quality Of Life"

It pains me greatly to watch people TALK AROUND an issue that is staring them directly in the face.  I wonder if it is willful blindness or merely their own ideological proclivity and indoctrination that has them unable to see what is clearly evident.

In addition, for some people their need to "save face", not rendering "self-indictment" as a pretext to abandon their theories and go a different way that have the group of them complicitly agreeing to not talk about the 800 pound primate that is swinging on the chandelier just above their head.

These same people who constantly tell us that "We aer a nation of immigrants", underscoring the legacy of "FLIGHT TOWARD QUALITY" with the hopes of greater opportunity.  We hear about the Europeans, post-Colonial Africans, Mexicans and Asians that have come to America in pursuit of opportunity.  For some reason the domestic migration patterns don't appear to be connected to this same phenomenon.

If the failed economic conditions and violence in Mexico today is triggering a mass exodus to the United States for a better life - what should we say about the shrinking populations in Cleveland, western New York or Milwaukee?

More importantly - when it comes to analysis of the "Great Migration" of Black Americans from the racist South up to the North - we talk about the conditions of racism and stunted job opportunities, all enforced by the system of governance which actively sculpted this outcome.   When it comes to the popular analysis of the present fate of the North - the "bad guys" are brought to light per the same process of "selective narrative" that American history is condemned for.

We learn that exploitative corporations, no longer wanting to operate in environments where THE PEOPLE control their own environment through the GOVERNMENT and thus they regulate and tax these corporate forces to insure that their greed and environmental destruction is kept in check.   If only Howard Zinn had a prodigal son to write a counter-narrative of the official set of events.

If the junior Zinn were to put forth a different vision he would note that the new establishment powers took over these places and actively implemented a new set of rules.  In as much as anti-corporate capitalism is a frequent element of their rhetoric there would not be a logical leap to assume this was an important target for the machine that swept into power.

This same machine picked apart and then replace the various polices that:

• Were in place in the schools
• Defined the "rules of engagement" between the police and the public
• Shaped the economic policies for the place

INDEED they are to be credited for removing large elements of injustice and discrimination.

It is also true, however, that they must stand accountable for the great unraveling.   SOME of that which they called "exploitation and injustice" was the "struggle" which added motion to the uplift of the eco-system.  Today that motion stopped and now these places are no longer employment centers.

What good is it to have maximized "labor rights" on paper but no opportunities to express them?
The status of unemployed and impoverished casts a broader burden upon an individual.  There is no union grievance that can be filed against a corporation who has failed in its fiduciary duties of the unemployed.

Their solution is to appoint the government as the corporate entity that has failed them.  Since the local government lacks the resources to pay the indictment their natural choice is to go national.

The Need To Apply Their Theories Locally Among "The Willing"

 A new methodology is needed which would allow those who had the intention of improving the lives of the workers to actually obtain this end.

It is clear that the subject of exploitation and justice are the two end nodes of the continuum that they exist upon.  They seek to avoid the exploitation in the field of labor in which:

• Compensation
• Benefits Package
• Work Rules 
• Workplace Safety
• Respect for Labor's Opinions By Management

are all minimized in the name of profit.
At the same time they erect overhead to the point that they drive the "consumers of labor" out of the market.

Instead of having a private "Consumer of Labor" which benefits from their exploited labor they need to come up with an alternative scheme by which their own group receives the benefit of their labor sacrifice all the while avoiding the abuse that was found in the compound lead by Jim Jones.

How do they retain their base of laborers while allowing them to remain free?   Cuba has many of the liberties that they have but it, once again, does not have the freedom to come and go as they please.

Is it possible that they STRUGGLE, attaching their indictments against an external adversary because absent an external adversary the internal forces who seek to buck their system become the adversary?
