In The Midst Of Continued Conflict In Atlanta's Violent Streets: SCLC Faction Vows To Appeal Court Ruling

AJC: Appeal filed in struggle over control of SCLC

If we go back about 2 or 3 years ago when the SCLC had an awards banquet during happier times for the organization.  At that time the president of the organization announced its plans to progress as an organization.   He noted the organization's plan to have an SCLC office on every continent so that it can impart the LEADERSHIP goals in CONFLICT RESOLUTION that it learned during the Civil Rights Struggle for social justice to other areas of conflict around the world.

Recall that I was critical and skeptical of this plan.   I noted that right beneath the nose of its Atlanta based headquarters there is a "killing field" for Black people that is walking distance away in the "Old Fourth Ward" section of the city.  While some people are easily pacified as they mistake the motions of progress as expressed by the expansion plans for EFFECTIVENESS for me I saw the move as an attempt to find some new relevance after so many "low hanging fruit" on their tree of struggle had been consumed.

The SCLC and many of the other classical civil rights organizations are standing at the "Pacific coast" of their existence, all of the room for easy expansion that OUTRIGHT INJUSTICE once afforded them.   Little do they realize - it is time for them to GO BACK into the land that they now have "favorable people" in control over, per their "Voter Harder" campaigns and to shift gears into actual RESOURCE MANAGEMENT.

Leadership against the antics of a common OUTSIDE enemy is the type of skill that is abundantly represented by these groups that remain today.   They operate with the same view as does "Media Matters" - with a rifle scope focus upon their enemies while expressing near sightedness in regards to the threats that are upclose and personal, having emanated from within.

At present we see the worst possible situation:  a community that is indeed in need of a new level of CONSCIOUSNESS in the messages that make up the foundation of their "community cultural consciousness", from which NEW LEADERSHIP will arise coupled with existing leadership organizations that have cut their teeth on threats that have been regulated.

In this context a new set of problems from the community are spurred from within as the individuals who have not had their thoughts and actions REGULATED by a functional culture now pose the prevailing threat to the interests of the same communities that used to receive protection from the external threats by these organizations in question.

I place no special attribute upon the SCLC or the NAACP as it relates to the Black community.  Both are organizations that were born out of necessity and relevance for the time in which they were born.  It will be the question of their relevance in the context of the problems that the Black community has that will determine their future fate.
