I can rattle off the names of no less than 5 local Black politicians that have been taken out by corruption charges for accepting menial amounts of money. I am talking $4,000 or $10,000 in bribes. From this they lose their reputation, their office and serve jail time. Seemingly every time this happens there is talk from the gallery that expresses outrage that these powerful figures would go out for such "chump change". (As a former city employee from years ago I can tell you that these amounts are menial. There is far more fraud money flowing through official invoices than from envelopes stuffed with cash and handed over at a restaurant.)
Well a commissioner on the Gwinnett County Georgia board has set the reference standard for getting some equity from his office. He got $1,000,000 in increments of $50,000 for a land deal in which he conspired to push through a county purchase at an inflated price.
To add insult to injury this guy refuses to resign his seat after being indicted. In a subsequent official public meeting several constituents let him have it but the county board chairperson refused to demand that he resign because he is only indicted and not convicted yet.
This guy is a low life and needs to go.
