“Take Back The Black Community Consciousness". It has been hijacked by embedded operatives who don't intend to develop the COMPETENCIES within. We once controlled this consciousness, focusing our activism directly upon our permanent interests. Today the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" has us as starters and some believe that this playing time translates into absolute progress for our people. My goal is to hold our permanent interests in their faces, forcing them to explain their actions.

Deonte Bridges Of Booker T Washignton High School - A Human Resources That Was Allowed To Grow Into A "Pillar Of The Community"
(Updated - Aug 2)
In today's Sunday Atlanta Journal Constitution there is an excellent write up on Deonte Bridges - the valedictorian of the Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. The first (Black) male to hold this honor in 10 years.
Atlantan succeeds while he overcomes family tragedy, other obstacles.
Mr Bridges had over $1 million in scholarships thrown his way in an attempt by various schools to sway this honorable young man their way.
This was a young man who's consciousness had him giving up the school basketball team in order to pursue his academic excellence. We are usually treated to stories about young men in his position who need a break to eek by in the class that they are on the borderline of failing so that their sports career won't be dashed.
Mr Bridges suffered through many of the distractions that other young people in his situation have faced - being robbed, the death of a loved one and even single motherhood. Despite all of this Mr Bridges rose to the top of his class and will enjoy a full ride at the University of Georgia in a few weeks.
Whatever he and his mother are doing - they are doing it right.

This young man has accomplished alot. His high school is all black, the oldest black high school in Atlanta. I think the media is thinking it is not. He is the first male in ten years because girls have usually been the valedictorian. There has also been at this school an Asian child that was the valedicatorian. This young man has had BOTH of his parents by his side as well as teachers, mentors, and family to guide him.
