With this fact in mind I see the need to provide some key constraints that we all must apply to the issues of debate to insure that, regardless of the ideology and preferences that we have that are different going into the debate - we can make a better appraisal as to if a particular policy is actually effective.
For me the three key constraints that I choose to apply to this debate over affordable housing, Section 8 and the destruction of the high rise/high concentration public housing projects are:
- Community Consciousness
- Competency Development
- The Retention of One's Dignity
When I listen to the well-meaning housing and community activists in this piece I can't help but note how many of these key principles are violated. Some people have a greater desire to afford all Americans the right to live up to a particular standard of living that they have enumerated that they leave behind the important concept of having the people in question - these EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS - engage in active participation in this desired standard.
It seems to me that in the process of seeking to enforce the minimum standard of living under which no American should be allowed to fall below - there must be a long term intention to develop COMPETENCIES within these same people so that the gap between the STANDARD OF LIVING that a person's capabilities are able to afford him is not so great as compared to this minimum standard of living.
Those who are so interested in "lifting all boats" up to this minimum standards but are not concerned about issue of "competency development" risk gutting the two other important elements that are contained within the constraints that I have identified.
- There is no chance at the "community consciousness" - we heard in the audio report that "the GOVERNMENT never trained former housing project dwellers on how to keep their houses maintained and cut the grass at their new Section 8 homes. Thus these people, in their damaged state will choose to live in the conditions that the un-maintained properties within which they live erode to over time. They have lost the connection between their actions and obligations to maintain their own community and the state of disrepair it resides in as a result.
- In the area of "competency development" - the perverse line of thinking which creates a "There's a hole in the bucket" type of dependency upon the government where each and every aspect of these "equal human beings" lives are a function of a government based funding source - NEVER ONCE are these people looked toward for the maintenance operations for their own community. This include the thought that the government might go to Home Depot and Lowes - purchase building material and tools and then deposit it all within a local community tool shed for them to apply the skilled labor - without compensation in that THEY ARE ULTIMATELY TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES.
In my estimation - the best way to destroy a people, insuring that they are not a competitive threat in the next interval of time (50 to 200 years) is to do exactly what has been advocated for in his audio clip - that being NEVER ASKING THE PEOPLE WHO STAND TO BENEFIT THE MOST TO BE THE PRIMARY VEHICLE FOR THEIR OWN SALVATION.
Shamefully some people will look to how we have been "damaged' from our past, as they pursue these destructive policies today, all the while believing in their heart that once a certain level of societal equality is constructed per their government transfer schemes that these same people that they never asked ANYTHING OF - will one day grow in their competency and live as truly "equal human beings" in relation to their ultimate funding source.
