Video #2: TV One's Mean Streets Looks At Who Are Terrorizing The Black Communities Of Oakland
Analysis:
The only logical conclusion for me to reach upon seeing these two videos regarding the threats that are perceived by the Black Community - The Police and the Street Pirates - is that the massive protests against only one of these threats shows that these protests are a function of the ASSAILANT only.
Despite the fact that the Street Pirates are responsible for far more lives taken before their time within the Black community, those who are inclined to take to the street in protest in honor of a Black man's life are motivated to do so when the police are the agent of homicide.
For me - I refuse to focus upon only one side of the balance scale and take to the streets as if I "stand with my brothers and sisters in pursuit of justice" by doing so. Instead I see the choice to respond acutely to one threat while walking past numerous "telephone pole memorial" sites in order to protest downtown as operating with selective outrage.
The pie chart above is a model of the proportion of Black Homicide at the hands of police (justified or not) versus the Black Homicide at the hands of the "Street Pirates" (civilians). (The diagram is not based on factual numbers but is instead mean to represent a relative proportion of the vector of Black homicides).
Whereas I accept the notion that there should be higher expectations placed upon the police as compared to the civilian......when there are high expectations upon the police and almost none upon the civilian - this large gap can only result in a civilian criminal who is seen as inferior. The expectations upon him will dwarf to match his stature. He will begin to live down to these expectations.
Those who are truly interested in MANAGING the outcomes within the Black community to a favorable end must view the Black homicide challenge in total. To focus upon the police or the civilian (ie: Street Pirate) alone can only lead to imbalanced results.
I can't accept the mother of Oscar Grant tapping into the PURSUIT OF JUSTICE FOR BLACK PEOPLE in her speech yet the gross irony about the silence hovering over the newly filled graves in the Oakland Cemetery go unmentioned.
We can no longer run away from this key problem and contradiction in terms.

CF, I must say that this is spot on. To be sure, the Grant situation is an outrageous tragedy, but so too is the mayhem that folks suffer at the hands of these street pirates. In many ways the justification behind a high police presence in our communities is a function of the high rate of crime.
I suppose that the difference in response to the crimes ofthe police vs the street pirate owes to the nature of government sponsored violence versus the gratuitous violence of the pirate, but one is just as dead notwithstanding where the killer came from. This contradiction needs to end.
The more that that Black Rank & File allow those who have been allocated the community management role to cherry pick about the TYPE of Black Homicide they will rage about - the more they are going to choose the type which are most UNIFYING.
It comes as no surprise that in focusing upon the Police on Black homicides - no toes get stepped upon on the inside of the circle.
Unfortunately these are the rarest form of the homicides.
Black on Black homicides trigger more aggressive policing. Police on Black trigger protests
