- Ride Or Die (Chick)
- Vote Or Die
- (Vote For) Obama Or Die
Well a young brother that aspires to make it onto the Clayton County Board has a catchy new sign plastered all over the county:
VOTE OR WALK!!!!!
This is a notation of the need for all residents of Clayton County to come out and vote in favor of the sales tax increase to support the reestablishment of the "C-TRAN" bus service that was shut down a few months ago. (Or the extension of MARTA into Clayton County).
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA. (WABE) - Gov. Sonny Perdue signed House Bill 1446, clearing the way for Clayton County residents to vote on a transit tax. The county lost its transit service, C-Tran, in March. The non-binding referendum on July 20 will be the first step toward restoring transit there. Jeanne Bonner reports.
The Clayton County Commission has the final say on whether the county will begin collecting a one-cent sales tax for transit. But if residents vote yes in July, it will give the commissioners the clearest indication that they support transit.
State Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam represents Clayton County. She said the tax would collect more than $40 million a year.
"We will tell voters if the reason transit in Clayton County was stopped was lack of money, then here is a way fund the system three or four times over," she said.
Abdul-Salaam, who sponsored the bill, said the vote also poses another question.
"The vote asks, do we want to become a full participant in the MARTA system?"
MARTA, which serves Fulton and Dekalb counties, had operated C-Tran until budget problems forced suspension of the service.
MARTA CEO Beverly Scott said many polls show metro residents support transit.
"When you ask the public, whether or not they will support additional taxation for quality transportation including transit, the results have been very favorable," Scott said.
Abdul-Salaam said since C-Tran stopped, she can see how sorely Clayton County needs transit.
"I'm seeing old ladies with walking canes, carrying bags of groceries down the road in the rain," Abdul-Salaam said.
If the initiative passes in July, MARTA's board will have to approve the change. Abdul-Salaam and others have started a grass-roots effort to educate residents about the vote.
Egos Rule In Clayton County
Question:
What does a County Sheriff who is said to have a "Napoleon Complex"; who was voted out of office after one term; who made national news for commanding his "snipers" to position themselves on the roof of the police station just in case the Sheriff's Deputies that he has just fired decide to shoot up the place; who left office having suffered a 5 digit financial ruling against him - do for an encore to salvage his career?
Well if he is in the "opportunity granting" county in Georgia known as "Clayton" he can save face by RUNNING FOR THE STATE SENATE!!!!
Yes I almost wrecked my car in disbelief. Well actually my camera phone did not focus fast enough the first time I drove by this sign. I had to go home and take care of business and then drive back up to make sure that I actually saw what I saw.
Yes it is true. Former Sheriff Victor Hill is running for Senator.
Not let me give the brother some credit and make the assumption that he is running for STATE senate. I know that GA Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmonnd is a Democrat planning to run against the Republican incumbent Senator Johnny Isakson. I would hope that Hill is instead planning to run for the seat presently held by Valencia Seay as she is on long term disability.
