Jesse Jackson Vs The Clayton County Board On C-TRAN Bus Service - Democrat On Democrat

Who was that "groupie" that made the comment about a "world renowned leader GRACING us with his presences"? That was the State Senator of the area.

Its a good thing that Clayton County Georgia is not run by Republicans otherwise Jesse Jackson would have outwardly attacked them.

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA -- In a surprise visit to the Clayton County Commission meeting, the Reverend Jesse Jackson made a public plea to bring back C-Tran. His allotted two minutes expired and he asked the board for a one minute extension. All five members said no.

C-Tran stopped service at the end of March with commissioners saying it was bleeding money and simply not feasible in these tough economic times.

Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam and others who have been fighting to convince the commission to reconsider say they're not surprised by what happened to Rev. Jackson.

"What is it that you're afraid to hear? When you can't make time for someone who's known internationally when they take the time to show up here--there's something's wrong with that," said Abdul-Salaam.

So what did the reverend want to say with that one extra minute?

"I wanted to urge them to immediately pass the one-cent sales tax increase to bring back at least some sort of public transportation. This is an emergency situation. I know students who have no way to get to school and people who can't get to work," said Rev. Jackson.

In lieu of that extra time, one commissioner suggested meeting with the reverend one-on-one at a later date, but when 11Alive asked the commissioners when that might be, they had no specifics.

Earlier in the meeting, commissioners did consolidate some extra funds from several sources to be used to provide para-transit services to frail, elderly and dialysis patients for medical services.
