WSB TV Atlanta - Undercover Video Of Illegal Hiring Practices
For those of you who are familiar with Atlanta and its politics - the Atlanta airport is the "crown jewel" of achievement for the Black political class. The great - mayor Maynard Jackson is remembered for his Affirmative Action contracting program that was implemented when the 'mid-field terminal complex' - the terminal system that is in use today - was constructed during his first two terms in office. This is used as the key example of how the ascension of Black Progressives into political office has translated into material benefit for Black owned companies and Black workers there in.
Some of the well known Black owned construction services that frequent the Black Enterprise list of businesses got their start doing work for the Atlanta Airport. Herman Russell Construction being the most famous one of all.
As we fast forward to today the "William B. Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport" which was originally named after the mayor of the city which he said was "too busy to hate" during the Civil Rights Movement has been renamed. It is now called "The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport", paying tribute to Maynard Jackson.
In further tribute to Maynard Jackson is the present construction of the new international terminal. In constructing a brand new terminal complex the Atlanta airport will be able to expand even further, adding more domestic and international gates.
With the passing of Maynard Jackson something else has passed as well - or at least it seems. Those prime construction spots at the Atlanta airport are no longer 'reserved' for Black workers that have been marginalized as the "good ole boys" had their run of things. As the expose' done by a local television station that is linked to above shows - there exists today a "wink, wink" set of employment practices that exist in the building trades in Atlanta. The video shows that Hispanic workers with documents that are suspect or non-existent are being hired by the construction foremen looking for brick and cement workers.
Indeed some might argue that with Georgia as a "right to work" state has immobilized the power of the unions to control who gets hired for these plum construction jobs. The lowest bidder with the highest skills are winning out.
Note again from the video that there are no Black civil rights organizations waging protests at the job site, DEMANDING that the 'E-Verify' system be used to screen out those who's immigration status prevent them from being legally employed.
Instead we have a "White man" from the group "Jobs For Georgians" who has put their foot down and stood up for their permanent interests of employment opportunity. Though they risk being called a RACIST they are merely asking that the laws be followed. (Sorta like what we hear when it comes to gun control, right?)
Whereas the NAACP joined in the the unions in New York City last week to protest against "Wall Street", they were no where to be found, standing shoulder to shoulder with "Jobs For Georgians" to protect these jobs that are in hand. It seems that they would rather shake the bushes seeking jobs.
In truth the key problems that we face in the economics of the Black community is not primarily with "Illegal Immigration". Instead our problems reside with the ability of those who control our key institutions to CHERRY PICK as they are allowed by the Black rank & file to run off to the battlefields that match their forte, while they often depart from their battle stations that are directly attached to our community - the Black rank and file giving them cover to prevent the court-marshal for offense of "AWOL" .

The immigrants rights groups were pissed back then. Note how effective the legislation was. NOT!!
This issue is clearly ideological in nature with some people no longer hiding their desire to ignore the laws and others providing them with cover by claiming those who dare to enforce the law are "racists".
