The video above in Atlanta shows a scene of great irony.
The sight of a protest against the planned foreclosure of a downtown homeless shelter has put long time friends in the Progressive Struggle at odds with each other. Over the past 6 months the City of Atlanta has threatened to cut off the water to the homeless shelter due to a large unpaid bill. The lack of water would have forced the shelter to close. The shelter officials went to court to force the city to retain the water service. Ironically the reason why the city went after the shelter is because it decided to go after utility customers with large unpaid bills for service. The city is facing a massive budget constraint and it is attempting to clear its accounts receivables.
Fast forward to today. The shelter itself is on the verge of foreclosure. The administrators of the shelter are threatening to go to Washington DC to have the federal government withhold millions of dollars of money from the City of Atlanta in order to squeeze it into doing what they want the city to do.
There are no enemy Republicans involved here as you might typically think. This is "Inter-Progressive" infighting going on here.
So infrequent is the occasion that we see one group of Progressives that are seeking to maintain the bottom line due to a gaping hole in the city budget versus another group of Progressives that are seeking to care and feed for 'The Least Of These' as they carry forth the notion 'People Over Profits'.
I will keep an eye on this one to note how it all turns out.
