Please note: While I don't agree with the "crying Black woman" that the school is totally responsible for HER daughter not being able to spell - this video clip provides an excellent example of the complexity of the school choice debate.
I should also note that the Fox News host was unfair by advancing the notion that the Obama Administration was opposed to charter schools. In fact - as Democrats - they have done well in confronting the entrenched interests from their party who are inclined to defend the traditional government operated public school systems. These same people who aggressively fought against NCLB are not inclined fire at Obama with the goal of destroying him. If school choice has any chance - it will be via a Democratic administration who at least conditionally supports them.
There is clearly an attempt to gain ideological and political advantage in this entire debate over school choice. Much of this is ramping up because the national educational policies are being reworked. Some embedded operatives feel threatened.
In my view the INCUMBENT must be forced to JUSTIFY their present results that have been garnered. Unlike most when I say "incumbents" I am not only talking about the school teachers.
The truth is that the incumbents are the ADULTS that mold the eco-system within which these children develop their consciousness:
- The Parents
- The Adults In The Community
- The Cultural Leaders (Preachers, etc)
- The Teachers
- The School Administrators
- The Elected Officials
- The Outside Forces
