Suggested Reading: The Struggle To Honor Martin Luther King Jr's Legacy On Street Signs In Georgia.
Yesterday an 80 year old store owner was shot in the head. She dared to fight off a robber using her broom. He shot her in the head, killing her.
Today we see that what must be the "MOST FREQUENTLY ROBBED FAMILY DOLLAR STORE IN AMERICA" got robbed once again. Seriously folks - this is about the 4th time this place has been robbed in recent memory.
Over the past 15 years the Black Political Establishment in Atlanta has worked to remove the names of "Confederate Generals" from the street signs in Black communities. They asked "How do you expect peace in our community when our people look up and see the names of THEIR OPPRESSORS honored on the street signs"?
Sadly this exercise did not work. These areas that received this treatment are some of the most violent places for Black people in Atlanta.
It may be time to promote the notion that these honors need to be EARNED. Certain street names and schools named after honorable figures might need to be revoked once their honor has been sullied beyond the point of recognition by the people of today.
These two sets of pirates didn't have any consciousness or respect for the fact that they were threatening people with a deadly weapon. It is unlikely that they will give a damn about doing their pirate attacks on Martin Luther King Dr Drive or the previous name of the street.
“Take Back The Black Community Consciousness". It has been hijacked by embedded operatives who don't intend to develop the COMPETENCIES within. We once controlled this consciousness, focusing our activism directly upon our permanent interests. Today the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" has us as starters and some believe that this playing time translates into absolute progress for our people. My goal is to hold our permanent interests in their faces, forcing them to explain their actions.
