WSJ: 'Fastest Dying Cities' Meet for a Lively Talk
I know of no greater example of a group of people who have made a series of damaging and deadly choices in their past that are most responsible for their present state of affairs and yet still a large group of people within who are too entrenched to accept the part that they played in the matter.
I constantly hear pro-union people tell about the benefits that the unions have brought to the working class:
- The 8 Hour Work Day
- Overtime
- Collective Bargaining
- Workplace Safety
I am not trying to diminish any of these points. The labor movement did indeed move the ball forward in this nation. I am a worker.
The point that doesn't seem to be understood by some is that at some point the Labor Movement went too far and they ended up destroying the Goose to which they were dependent upon for these expanded benefits.
What good is an 8 hour work day if you don't have a job?
There needs to be balance. The Wall Street trader and the Union worker both need to seek sustainable agreements that can endure the challenge of time. We see in both cases that maximized benefit for short term advantage means nothing after the train wreck.
