I am open minded enough to admit that I was wrong. This is the case, it seems, with my view of the SCLC. Here I was figuring that they were immune to the "killing fields" that exists about 5 blocks away from their headquarters in Atlanta.
Instead they organized a march today - in the opposite direction from the Killing Fields - as a means of making the Black community aware of the threats that surround them in their community.
The reason why I feel that I must apologize to the SCLC is because they have "won" as compared to what they faced 50 years ago. Think about it.
Where as in the past they would see Black people getting attacked and they would have to hold a protest march against the government that was failing to protect their safety and civil rights, today things have changed.
They got the MAYOR to march along side them. Not only that - several candidates who are positioning to replace the mayor in office also joined in on the march or had their agents walking in the march bearing their signage.
Let's be honest folks - when there was one, White Antagonist to fight against - these marches were much easier. We knew who the bad guys were and we knew who stood against us - per their unwillingess to march with us.
MARCHES TODAY
A few years ago we saw a group of aggrieved Black folks travel to Jena LA and they were filled doing the "Electric Slide".
Today we see a march against "Piracy" and yet I heard no speeches detailing WHO EXACTLY they were marching against.
Which entity did they hold accountable for violating their civil rights?
Being that those who threaten them likely come from their own communities - isn't a bit of self-incrimination that:
- The Mayor is of their own choosing
- The Next Mayor will be of their own choosing
- The Assailant came from their own community
But you have to hand it to them - it WORKS EVERY TIME.
