The Pirate Swarm: Metro Area Businesses Veering Toward Closure Due To Crime

Some smash-and-grab robberies followed by store closings

I have been reporting on the "Assault On Small Businesses By Pirates" based on my own observations over time. Today the AJC largely validates what I had already seen.

Continued criminal assaults upon small businesses have the effect of pushing them closer to boarding up their windows. First they put a board upon their windows on a temporary basis to cover the broken window. Then they install more permanent boards up because they are out of business.

These assaults rob them of inventory, insure that their businesses are closed for a few days while they clean up. There are costs incurred for replacement of windows, installation of security systems.

While they are able to recoup some of these costs from their insurance, these dangerous conditions insure that their insurance rates will skyrocket. Even if their own business was not hit - the risk experienced by the area will insure that they will have a rate increase.

This is the result of the "I don't give a what" lifestyle.

Purely seeking short term benefit with a brick in hand while ignoring the long term damage that they do to the story employees and the taxes that are sent to the local government.

These Pirates need to be put in line. They are causing more fear and disruption to the normal course of living for our local community than what is going on in the "War On Terrorism". (This is not a rhetorical insert by me. This is the truth)
