Just imagine if other Black contributors to the conversation in the various forms of media available today where to apply the same level of consciousness in regard to the shoulders that they now stand upon?
Sadly where as the Tribune was founded because the mainstream media was not a reliable source for honest commentary about the Black community, today the dishonesty about what is going on "within the Black community" is coming from many of the Tribune's Black press partners. They believe that they need to be a counterbalance to the "if it bleeds it leads" tendency in the mainstream press. At the same time they appear to not want to talk about the dysfunction that is present within that is provoking the shedding of blood. This too often results in them advocating for the prevailing Black Establishment and its Progressive/Democratic Party co-sponsors rather than working to hold those who have control over our key institutions accountable for promoting EFFECTIVE POLICIES rather than just popular policies. This ends up being a disservice to the Black community as it seeks to orient itself toward the realities of today rather than in reference to a past that has been buried along with the ghost of Jim Crow segregation that no longer terrorize our communities.
I grew up reading the Philadelphia Tribune. It appears to have always operated upon the highest level of journalistic integrity. I will need to consciously make a point to read their on line content to catch up with what is going on in Philly.
