Black Folks Living In Conservative Areas - The Black Park

The opening ceremonies of the park where Republican County Commissioner Smith speaks to the primary audience who will be using these public accommodations

Last week I reported in the sister blog of this one entitled "The Parallel Hood" about the advancement that I had seen in the use of "public accommodations" by Black folks in this conservative county of Fayette County Georgia - a former "Confederate State". There was a Black family which chose to have its family reunion in Fayette County GA instead of the more popular destinations for Black folks such as Atlanta, Dekalb County, Clayton County.

As I thought about the greenspace facilities that are offered in Fayette County I felt that I had given short shrift to the brand new park on the north side of the county - Kenwood Park.

To fill you in a bit on the geographic realities of Fayette County - "North Fayette" is where most of the Black folks live in this conservative, Republican dominated county. Many of them have emigrated out of the more progressive counties to the north, moving down to live with their ideological adversaries - the Conservatives.

Fayette has a reputation for quality schools and many of our people look past the rhetoric that is said about conservatives nationally and figure that going to school with a thug is more hazardous to their health and academic ambitions.

When I drove through Kenwood Park today I paid special attention to the signage that was present. We all know that there is a special sensitivity to "Whites Only Water Fountain" signs in various collection of Black artifacts, some of which can be seen on the "USSlave" blog.

I was looking out for some "No Blacks Allowed" signs posted in the park.
I didn't even see a "Go Back To Where You Came From - Africa" graffiti painted on any fixture in this park by vandals in reaction to Barack Obama's electoral victory.

I had my finger on my camera phone, looking out for any cops that might assault me, just as he NAACP had warned me to do earlier this week. And I do have an unlimited texting plan so this would have not been a problem for me to send....IF it had happened.

Boy was I disappointed. I saw none of this.

I even found out that the Republicans had overspent for this park in the "Black part" of the county. It was originally slated to cost $3.5 million and they ended up spending close to $10 million. Hell, I just talked with a brother from Clayton County who told me that the reason for the crime there is because there are too few recreation centers for the young people to have something to occupy their time.

After searching high and low for some "racial discrimination" in the accommodations that are mostly used by Black folks in this Conservative county I was frustrated and I left.

Then as I turned the corner out of the park I thought of one thing that I had overlooked! There was no SWIMMING POOL for the Black kids to get thrown out of!!

How could I miss that one.
