AJC: Jobless rate hits 9.4 percent in May; layoffs slow
I recall a few years ago on a particular blog I had a debate adversary named "News Junkie". (NewJunkie1908 - I miss you girl. Your attacks on me and on conservatives used to make my day. Where are you now?)
After the "Bush Recession" of 2001 and the job reports that followed each First Friday of the following month - my friend NJ hammered Evil Bush saying "this was the weakest recovery in history." Thus Evil Bush's policies were pilloried as being a failure. That first Friday of each month was a new civil war battle each and every month. A second anti-Bush agent named "Saxman" incessantly repeated that the economy needed to create 175,000 jobs each month just to tread water, with respect to the influx of immigrants and Americans entering into the market.
Does anyone notice that - aside from No more "Anti-War protests", no "This many people have died since Obama Has taken Office".....we have also seen a vacation of any consideration about job creation and its association with economic policy stemming from the administration.
Indeed - after 4 months in office we can't reasonably hold the Federal Democrats accountable fully accountal be for all that is going on right now.
My challenge is different.
My question is to get all to define WHEN the Federal Democrats receive ownership of this per the policies that they have set forth?
For many people this is a "Heads Obama wins, Tails Bush loses". Obama is not going to be held accountable for this. He can ONLY receive praise for the recovery. Even if it is a tepid recovery it will be played against the horrible condition that Bush left the nation in. No mention of the fact that the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress for the past 2.5 years. With the present Senate majority - they have an unstoppable force to do what they want to with the federal government.
“Take Back The Black Community Consciousness". It has been hijacked by embedded operatives who don't intend to develop the COMPETENCIES within. We once controlled this consciousness, focusing our activism directly upon our permanent interests. Today the "Malcolm X Political Football Game" has us as starters and some believe that this playing time translates into absolute progress for our people. My goal is to hold our permanent interests in their faces, forcing them to explain their actions.

Whoever thinks presidents or parties cause recessions obviously did not pay attention in Economics class. The economy runs in cycles.

I agree with you.
The problem is that there are people who make use of both the "economy" and claims of "racism" as a driver for their POLITICAL agenda.
Let me be clear - Republicans do this as well. On the Republican side they use "fear of Hispanics or Blacks".
The Democrats PRETEND that they don't use race in this way but THIS IS A LIE.
I have a blog entry stuck in my head that contrasts the "racism chasing" done on Black talk radio with the "race engineering" done on Right Wing radio.
Both of them seek to benefit their own party by attacking the other one - using RACE.
Good point.
I remember reading about the Willie Horton ads used back in 1988 by the GOP when the Democrats used something similiar except the criminal was a Hispanic.
Both parties use race you are right, the Democrats can get away with it without being called racist.
The "outrage" over the Willie Horton ad was feigned.
Frontline did an episode on Republican operative Lee Attwater.
They played the commercial about the prison turnstiles and then the analyst pointed out that only the "Black actor" in the commercial looked up at the camera in a menacing way. The one's prior to him looked down toward the ground as they passed through.
He said that this was a symbolic message to the White voters. It was like "I am a Black man and I am coming to get you".
The only problem was that the WHITE prisoner that walked through right after the Black actor LOOKED AT THE CAMERA AS WELL.
Here is the ironic part of the story. I notice even today that when alarm companies do commercials with thugs breaking into the house - they use a WHITE burglar. OK no problem. They do this, however, because IF they did use Black thugs they'd be accused of sullying the image of Black men.
In the infamous Willie Horton commercial there was only one Black actor that walked through the turnstile. Had they used more Black actors - this would have - ironically:
1) Deflated the attacks because then BOTH of the Black guys would have had to look at the camera for the attackers to make the case that the "Black guy" was put there as a menace to White voters
2) It would have been a more accurate representation of the racial make up in the MA prison system.
The OUTRAGE over the Willie Horton was the same type of coordinated attack that Senator George Allen saw over the feigned outrage over his Macaka comment. He would have had to say this on the camera of the DEMOCRATIC candidate that was sent there to cherry pick his comments. The national media and YouTube coordinated to get the Democrats in.
It amazes me that the general public feigns outrage over WORDS yet certain political candidates that leverage singers and actors and personalities that have popularity with young people all use VILE LANGUAGE AND IMAGES as a part of their aura.
