White Republicans Struggle With How To Attract Black Folks To Their Party

Here is a suggestion: Stop assuming that Black people are INFERIOR - per this ridiculous case in New Haven CT.

Article From "The Next Right": Young Voters, the GOP, and Race

MY RESPONSE:

Ms Solti:

I am a Black male who is a Black Conservative rahter than a Republican. I tell you this not to get something in the way of a special treatment from you but for a more pennitrating perspective.

You said:
A party that appears to be uninterested in the concerns of (or votes of) African-Americans or Hispanics does not only risk forfeiting a growing segment of the population (and educated population) as a whole.
Do you ever reverse the argument and make note that in the areas where Blacks, Hispanics and certain segments of the White community live despite being solid Democratic /Progressive majorities - the key grievances of the masses go unresolved. Why don't we see a sustained attack on the establishment in these places in response to:

* Failing Schools

* Crime Ridden Streets

* Eroding Economic Condtiions

Is the problem really "non-interest" or is the problem EFFECTIVENESS in resolving problems? Indeed progressive and conservatives have differing viewpoints on many things. We should not confuse what is "popularly assumed to be" the best way forward with "what is PROVABLY the way forward".

Ms Soltis - when does the statement "We don't like conservatives and thus we don't vote for them because they don't support what we beleive is the pathway to receive our permanent interests" over to " DESPITE having a full compliment of favorable elected officials in place in pursuit of our interests - they have not delievered upon our permanent interests. It is time that we take a step back and make sure that our assumptions regarding how to move forward are correct"?

Does one ever question the presence of BIGOTRY in place in these entrenched progressive places?

Ms Soltis -

The court case in New Haven speaks to ASSUMED Black inferiority by the system. I am most angered with Black people subject themselves to this position for the want of a certain benefit. .

When a system that was designed to parcel out the scarce resource known as leutinant positions in the fire department did not produce the intended "diversity" results - the results were thrown out and some other system that purported to deliver more "favorable" results was implemented.

Tell me one civil rights activist who would support this action IF it flowed against their interests?

I understand what you're talking in regards to the districts and cities, but there is something I want to bring up in regards to the parties.

The Democratic Party wasn't always minority-friendly until it took people like Adam Clayton Powell Jr and Fannie Lou Hamer to fight to make the party theirs and we see the results today.

The thing is if blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc... think the GOP does not care about them (or is hostile) or not attracted to their vote, whatever happened to fighting to get a place at the Republican's table? Where the Adam Clayton Powells and Fannie Lou Hamers of the Republican Party? Where is the activism to make the GOP more diversity-oriented?

I've heard so many people say the GOP is so hostile, but I don't see them make an effort to get it out of the party.

Some food for thought...

Anon:

I have addressed this previously.

Indeed these pioneers in the Democratic Party look past the spit in their faces as they "kept their eye on the prize" and sought Political Representation For Black People.

The key factor that you must include into the mix today is that since Blacks are so readily identifiable with the Democratic Party - it is now in the DEMOCRATIC PARTY best interests to keep the image of the Republican Party as such. This prevents many Black folks from "looking around".

I have been working hard to reframe the issue. Most people consider where they stand PRESENTLY and then look around to find a party or a group that most closely approximates what they assume to be their best way forward.

I challenge these same people to LOOK at the places where THEIR IDEOLOGY is most strong and then us THIS as the evidence of the EFFICACY of their way forward. Indeed there is a gross distinction between what you ASSUME TO BE the most effective means of addressing your interests versus what CAN BE PROVEN TO BE the case.

Most Black folks prefer to put CONSERVATIVES ON TRIAL. They talk about Bush and the Republicans all day and all night. It is critically important to have them put their FAVORED PARTY and IDEOLOGY on the stand and inspect it for the very same things.

The power that the Democratic Party has presently is one of INCUMBENCY and 'A PARTY OF OUR OWN'. When a voting populace ties their own development to a party then when that party gives them "A CRUMB" they will rationalize it as "one more crumb that I did not have YESTERDAY" and thus it is progress. When this same ideology fails them then it is the OPPOSITION PARTY which stood in their way and derailed their efforts. The solution? Help "my party FIGHT HARDER so that they can be successful".

By definition the present Black establishment is in a SOLD OUT STATE. They have sublimated their own interests for the "one off" strategy of first getting the Progressives in power to take over the establishment and in this make over the Black community will finally receive the benefit that we have been striving for. They are loathed to TAKE MEASURE of the incremental progress along the journey to confirm that proportional progress is being made in the short term so that it is even plausible that these long term benefits will ever be seen.

In short we have all aligned into a TEAM SPORT mentality. With race fused as a part of a "team", all other facts that prove otherwise are put to the side.

We should have seen mass lynching of Black people on April 15th IF what the Leftist Propagandists said about the "Racist Whites" was true.

Ironically - my BEST INTERESTS as a Black man are being forwarded by me living in this conservative county - quality education system and (as I will soon post) the only county in metro ATL to retain its proper values during this current crisis.

I have my own thoughts reaffirmed with the growing presence of Black people moving into the county. They are still loyal Democrats who have not yet seen the irony that they are better off living amongst the people who are their ideological adversaries than among the areas that they have VOTED to customize in the way that they prefer.
