The South is luring Northerners of all stripes — black, white, Asian and Hispanic — for economic reasons that include lower housing costs and property taxes and more affordable college tuition.
This comes as no surprise to me for I too am a northern transplant.
For me the job opportunities, the lower taxes, the lower housing costs and the less congested cities made the decision for me.
Ironically Black operative groups such as "Color Of Change" would have us believe that enlightened Northern Progressive states (and California) offer Blacks a better lifestyle than what the "Red States" can offer up. The facts show differently. While no doubt many Southern states have a ways to go in key areas of development - they'd be wise to avoid the mistakes that are rampant in New York, Michigan and California.
The South has a bunch of undeveloped land with nothing but potential in front of it.

When did Color of Change say that that enlightened Northern Progressive states (and California) offer Blacks a better lifestyle than what the "Red States" can offer up?
You're just making stuff up.
Go back and read my post about their focus upon South Carolina in their recent battle against the Republican governor's refusal to accept Federal debt money sent out as Stimulus Funds.
You will see that their PRESS RELEASE makes references to "conservative states".
Thus my counter argument to them was my focus upon the failing financial system of California where 5 times the number of educators are slated to be laid off. These facts have not provoked The Color Of Change into action.
Neither have they as a group protested against California (please note the teachers groups in CA have protested the cuts) NOR has Color Of Change thought to make note that PROGRESSIVE STATES are in as bad of financial straits and in some cases far worse than the 'Red States' that they focus their angst upon.
California has the worse bond rating of any other state. A long list of progressive cities are facing record budget shortfalls and they are starting to pile on taxes upon everyone. There is a death spiral of taxation being ramped up.
For some reason this is not provoking CoC to protest progressive governments.
CB,
You should retract your statement that CofC believes that Northern states offer a better lifestyle than Southern states.
Why? Because that statement is a lie. It a statement that is just beyond the pale false.
Yes, CofC has problems with many southern conservative politicians. BUT SO DO A LOT OF BLACK SOUTHERNERS!
To say that CofC's anger at certain Southern politicians is equal to a belief that life in the South is bad or wrong, that's ridiculous.
And as I understand it, a lot of people who've activism for CofC are themselves Southerners. CofC top guys are located in California, but people from all over the country.
If you don't like CofC's politics, cool.
But to go from that, and read into it that they're putting own the South as a whole... that's just going way to far. You should take it back.

Anon - I AM NOT going to retract anything about CoC because they have their cards clearly on the table.
I am not sure if you came to my blog from "Jack and Jill" but on THAT SITE I had posted details of the fraud that CoC is attempting to pull.
I documented the language that they used in their press release. INDEED they referenced Red States and their conservative leadership as being problematic for the interests of Black people.
Again - there are far more issues that are harmful to Black people that they are SILENT ABOUT as they prefer going to combat with Conservative adversaries.
If you are indeed a follower of my work - you'll see that I have no problem giving credit where credit is due.
