White Republican Rapper Had Better Watch What He Says

Republican Rapper Rips Obama, Hollywood

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele recently stated that he wants the G.O.P. to update its image to attract young, black and Hispanic voters by applying its message to "hip-hop settings." He now has at least one rapper on his side: self-proclaimed "Republican rapper" Hi-Caliber.

The New Jersey-based rapper's debut album is titled "Mr. Conservative," and features tracks with titles like "Obamanation" "For the People" and "Red White and Blue." He claims that his conservative worldview was the result of being exposed to right-wing talk radio host Michael Savage after 9/11, and pundits like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly mingle with the Wu-Tang Clan and KRS-One on his list of influences.

Rap is not known for embracing conservative ideals, but there are at least enough hip-hop Republicans to warrant a blog, which predates Michael Steele's comments and has covered Hi-Caliber. Caliber, for his part, is offering "Mr. Conservative" for the discounted price of $5 and as a free download to any U.S. military personnel serving overseas.
