Chris Brown and Nickelodeon

Commentary: Nickelodeon took cowardly way

I am going to go against the grain a bit and DEFEND Chris Brown.

Up until this point he has projected a public image that is to be applauded. He is no Snoop Dogg, T.I. or Young Jeezy. My young daughter likes his music. Prior to me handing her the CD of his that I purchased upon her request - I listened to his music. Chris Brown is no thug.

Save for this conflict with Rihanna he is indeed worthy of a positive image award.

I do not know what happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna that fateful night. I even hear that Brown comes from a family that has dealt with domestic violence. YES - Chris Brown needs help to deal with his will to hit a woman.

I have been in a situation where passions between myself and various girlfriends over time could have turned physical as such. As a man who has no inclination to hit a woman any physical engagement was defensive restraint placed upon the female in question rather than going on the offense with my own blows. My theory has been - as long as you don't hit me in the 'family jewels I have no inclination to respond aggressively. If you do hit me there - you'd better run though because you indeed are trying to hurt me rather than just vent your anger'. Thus far I have never had to go there.

There has been a drum beat of attacks upon Chris Brown. YES he deserves it in that he is a public figure that was found to have gotten physical with a popular female. I hope that people will apply some measure of forgiveness for this young male who's track record is otherwise on the positive side. He indeed has some major image rebuilding work to deal with.

I am willing to give him the "second chance" that I am not willing to give to those who project a Thug image. Chris Brown made a mistake and should be forgiven as long as he doesn't do it again.

Absolutely - a stellar young man and role model anyone could be proud of!

You know... except for that whole, well,... "woman beating" part.... but I'm SURE it was a 'mistake' - he probably just punched-her-swollen on accident.

In a perfect world, Rhianna would have an older brother or father willing to beat Chris Brown until he squeled and begged for death.

...but we live here, so I guess we got Nickelodeon.

Do you know if he "punched her" or do you know exactly how her face got bruised?

I've been a martial arts instructor for over 25 years, spent a number of years as a cop working domestic calls and spent some time doing legal advocacy for the local spouse abuse shelter - I have a pretty good idea of what hand-inflicted injuries look like...

... but don't worry, I'm sure she just "fell" or "walked into a door".

Nuthin' to see here, folks - move along... Watch you don't trip over that 'Image Award' propping the door open.
