Whites Kill Black Man In Texas - Registers As Nationally Signficant For The New York Times

Killing Stirs Racial Unease in Texas

Let me be clear - this death is NOT-NOT SIGNIFICANT.

The coverage of it stands out as the EXCEPTION. If the national statistics are correct - each week more than 170 Black people are murdered in this country. What is it that the New York Times - of course - out of New York - decided that THIS particular killing in Texas stands out?

I mean no disrespect at all to the family of the victim.

My only point is that the New York Times has chosen to focus on the COMMUNITY SENTIMENTS after this death. How the James Byrd death which occurred with a pick up truck comes to their mind. Rest assure that hundreds of Black people are killed by the intentional use of a vehicle as a murder weapon.

By definition the New York Times and the community has assigned more newsworthiness to this death of a Black man because his KILLERS WERE WHITE. Rest assure that if the killers were Black - this would have never hit the pages of the New York Times as the Black community would not be outraged as such.

We can no longer value the WHITE KILLER over the BLACK ONE in assessing the value of the Black victim's life.

Shawn Williams at dallassouthblog.com has been covering this from the start (Paris is his hometown.) My take on it is that all three men were criminal thugs, they had an argument, and they ended up settling it the way criminal thugs settle things. Murder, yes. Hate crime? No.
