NAACP Officer Charges Voter Fraud.....AGAINST The NAACP

I had to wipe my eyes and read the headline three times.

The Fayette County branch of the NAACP.  Fayette is presently a Republican dominated county despite the presence of Black folks in this suburban Atlanta town since the days of slavery.  

When I read the headline I thought that it was odd that the NAACP was filing a protest against county elections from November 4th so long after.  "Their guy won the national election", I thought.  We only hear complains from the NAACP when Republicans win.  Then I read the article in more careful detail.

It is the chairman of the NAACP branch that is alleging VOTER FRAUD against the NAACP itself!!!

“It is troubling and unacceptable when I am out as Legal Redress Chair defending the civil rights of others and am not treated with any fairness and civility within my own branch,” Grant said in the Nov. 8 complaint letter.

“I am hoping the leadership of the National NAACP will act promptly and swiftly to correct behavior and remove leaders on the local level who represent the organization in a bad light and give it a bad name. I believe in the saying, ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ I have not seen evidence of this since my one year membership in the Fayette County Branch. How can I fight against violations by other races on people of color when my own African American race violates me and other African Americans in a simple branch election?” Grant said.

Let me start off by saying - I have no idea if the charges made by Ms. Grant are true or not.

For me, however, it is not a matter of a focus on the DETAILS of the debate.  Instead I am focusing on the "sensitivity level" shown by the NAACP in regards to someone's "FEELING" that they have not been treated fairly.   We all know that "every vote is sacred and should be made to count".  The NAACP hammers this concept home to governments (again - especially with the Republicans win).   It seems that when someone is aggrieved against them their own stance is "What you talking about?....Silly Negro".     

My basic point is that there is a bit of theatrics to the entire stance made by the NAACP and similarly aligned groups.  They would have more credibility if they had more consistency.  If they fought for more "colorblind justice" - where, for example, a fraudulent Minnesota recount is a threat to DEMOCRACY just as trumped up claims of voter fraud in Ohio years ago were when a favorable hearing would have made John Kerry president.
