Jamiacan's Decision To Fly On Other Carriers Lead To Shrinkage Of Air Jamaica

Air Jamaica Stops Service To Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles

Sealy said he appreciated the airline's concerns as he heard it was recording losses upwards of $165 million, but said Government was looking at other options.

The service will be terminated February 26, which leaves Caribbean Airlines as the lone airline offering service between Barbados and Jamaica. The airline has also cut flights between Grenada and Jamaica, as well as service to Miami, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and Atlanta in the United States.

Reports out of Jamaica stated about 600 jobs would be lost overall, but chief executive officer Bruce Nobles said the company had yet to figure out the exact number of people who would be affected.

With so many Caribbean events in the USA being sponsored by Air Jamaica this seemingly did not buy the loyalty of various Jamaicans in supporting their flag carrier when returning home. American Air Lines, Delta Air Lines and Spirit Airlines drove down the price of tickets to Jamaica and they chose to go for the lower price rather than Air Jamaica.

I must also add that a sizable portion of travelers to Jamaica are Americans going on vacation who are not "native Jamaicans".
