NEW HAVEN - Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick cautioned last night that the election of a black president does not mean an end to the fight for racial justice in the United States.
Patrick, the Bay State's first black governor, spoke at a Black History Month event at Yale University, saying he believes the nation is at a crossroads in that fight.
"The quest for social justice is never static, never complete," he said. "Remember all those poor souls abandoned on rooftops after Hurricane Katrina. I ask you to consider whether they were abandoned before that storm."
Patrick described a piece of racist hate mail he recently received, which used a racial epithet to describe his wife and daughters and accused him of destroying the state.
Patrick, who spoke before a crowd of about 130 people inside a school dining hall, also praised those who fought for social justice in the past, including thousands of unsung heroes.
He told the story of how his grandmother, who could pass for white, would always enter restaurants ahead of her family and get a table for them, making it harder for anyone to ask them to leave
Excuse me Governor Patrick:
You say: "Remember all those poor souls abandoned on rooftops after Hurricane Katrina. I ask you to consider whether they were abandoned before that storm."
WHO abandoned them prior to the storm? Were they not fully enfranchized people with knowledge of the threat that living below sea level in a place surrounded by 3 powerful bodies of water and one big corrupt government around them to see the clear and present danger that they were in?
Patrick described a piece of racist hate mail he recently received, which used a racial epithet to describe his wife and daughters and accused him of destroying the state.
Mr Patrick - how does ONE IGNORANT WHITE PERSON allowed to set the tone for race relations for the millions of other people in the state?
Is there really any difference in the hatred felt by some people who instead of showing "racial bigotry" with regard to "who destroyed the state" they make use of IDEOLOGICAL BIGOTRY instead as their "hatred vector"?
BLACK HOMICIDES SPIKE IN BOSTON, MA
Let me be CLEAR PEOPLE - I am NOT guilty of REDIRECTION of blame off of the society and on to Black people - accusing my own people as being perpetual victims. Instead I am consciously COOPTING the attempts by progressives such as Duval Patrick from setting up A NARRATIVE that talks about everything BUT what is really going on WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY. It is by controlling the narrative that allows them to BE IN POWER OVER THIS CARNAGE and yet talk as if they have no fault in the matter. In as much as they can blame society - they remove themselves from accountability for failing to keep certain communities safe.
We DAMNED SURE are not going to hear Derrick Z. Jackson of the Boston Globe take up this issue with the goal of holding these Black and Democratic leaders that dominate the state and city ACCOUNTABLE. At least I can do my part of keeping their feet to the fire.
