EAST ST. LOUIS -- Alee Bunton called police every day for seven months to find out whether the men accused of gunning down her 19-year-old son would be charged.
She found out Tuesday that Joshua's case is one of about 50 that were not investigated for more than a year after East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Baxton informed Illinois State Police his department was taking over the city's homicide cases.
East St. Louis police never picked up the case files from ISP.

Trial set for man accused in deaths of three East St. Louis women

Younge has spent six years in the county jail, awaiting trial for the murders of Tracy Williams, 38; Ramona Sidney, 32; and Seriece Johnson, 33.
Prosecutors originally sought the death penalty against Younge but withdrew it after prosecution witness Antonina Brummund was murdered. Brummund testified Younge tied her up, beat and sexually assaulted her. Brummund was found murdered just three weeks before Younge was scheduled to go to trial, and her murder was never solved.
