The Plans Are Here
As much as it might seem that I am full of "hateration" for this specific area of Southwest Atlanta - I have no problem with singing their praise when they do the right thing.
The idea of a Tax Allocation District - in which commercial property owners agree to tax themselves at a higher rate so that money can be generated and kept locally for the community good - is a good idea when it was done along Buford Highway in Doraville GA and thus I must give equal praise to my friends in Southwest Atlanta.
What better way to do something than by self-initiated ideas and funding?
This specific area of the west metro Atlanta is being squeezed a bit. To the south is the sprawling Camp Creek Marketplace development and associated tract housing. To the north are the developments of Cobb County which appear to be taking a counter-clockwise flow down I285 on its way to subsuming some of the underutilized land areas of the MLK Blvd/ Campbellton Road sector. (I should say - this was happening prior to the crash and burn of the real estate market. We will have to see if the pace picks back up soon)
