MELBOURNE, Australia (AP)—Men’s and women’s singles champions will earn $1.42 million at the Australian Open, which is increasing overall prize money by 12 percent.
All the extra money is going to the singles finalists, Tennis Australia chief executive Steve Wood said in a statement Saturday. The losing singles finalists will received $706,300.
“This is an investment in the major revenue source for our sport in this country,” Wood said. “We want to work with the players to further elevate the status of the Australian Open.”
The Australian Open, the first of the year’s four tennis majors, starts Jan. 19 in Melbourne.

Conservative Feedback,
This is the Austrialia Open. You should've said "President Bush made a new pay hike for the finalist." Then, the racism-chasers would've came out.
BTW.. How do you feel abou the RNC new president? It was more of a business approach in my opinion
