To bottom line it for everyone -this Newsweek video makes the case that the Black vote for Barack Obama was the completion of a cycle between Fredrick Douglass, Booker T Washington and the present point in our journey as a people.
This point is the most common viewpoint in the debate.
What about ME and other Blacks who did not vote for Barack Obama?
On the one hand I allow my personal knowledge of my convictions to reject the Political Machine that Barack Obama is a part of. In doing so can't it be said that I have chosen to vote for "content of character" over "race"?
From where I stand the machine that Barack Obama is a part of ALREADY has dominate control over the places where Black and working class people live in their highest concentrations. Where as those who control the narrative like to point to Bush as the source of their troubles - the fact is that they had major problems before evil Bush stepped into office and, no doubt, their troubles will continue.
The key difference in this narrative now that Obama is in office will be
- Bush has destroyed this country
- Everything that Barack Obama is doing is in the name of REPAIRING what Bush has destroyed
One only needs to make note of the occasions when the left has attacked Obama thus far. It is not because of objective failure. It is only because he has gone "right". For him this means having shifted to the center in relative terms. If Obama puts forth every single leftist policy in the book but the economic numbers remain the same - he will be promoted as a hero in their books.
They are not interested in entry into 'The Promised Land' in absolute terms as measured on the streets. They are interested in advancing their POWER and their IDEOLOGY with the HOPES that this imposition will change their lot in life. They are always in pursuit of progress - on their terms.
