One dead, one seriously wounded in early morning fight
Let me start out by saying that I don't get off by harping on this news. This blog is my vent.
I do not like turning on the television and seeing these events on the news.
Instead I make note of the history of various schools in the deep South such as University of Georgia and West Georgia College - where this shooting took place.
As the news report was being set up I had one of those "I hope they are not Black" moments. When they said that a student was shot at a party - I knew that the conflict was surounding Black folks. The people who were interviewed at the party confirmed my suspicions. One femail said "two male egos were going at each other and then one guy said something that pushed the wrong button and the other guy started shooting".
I try to go beyond just reporting the news and harping on it with this blog. In this case I am left to wonder why these students got so caught up in the passions of the moment that they forgot where they were and their purposes of being there.
I know that when the parents of the dead student, the injured student and the shooter sent their sons to college - they did not envision a Funeral, A Hosptial Stay and a Life Sentence without the possibility of Parole.
The popular talking point is for Black people to make referene to the injury that slavery and segregation has set upon us. This particular shooting provides detail of how a deadly incident that happens in a small town college which was not always welcoming to Black people can be a tremendous set back for all who "look like" the shooter, the dead guy and the injured guy.
