The Democraticity Of Where We Live: Chicago & Illinois

I have already told everyone about the fact that a Black person living in Baltimore Maryland has not evil Republican representative speaking for him nor a Republican majority legislative body "standing in his way". Since that time I have been focusing on other suspect cities which likely have the same 100% lock or close to it. These candidates for inspection include Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, New York and Newark.

As I debate various people, challenging them on the logic of continuing their "fight against the government" now that THEIR FAVORED IDEOLOGY now runs their affairs - they often push back, pointing out that there are still Republicans hiding under every rock waiting to thwart them. In truth this is evidence of their totalitarian spirit. The fact is that if a "conservative" portion of their state chooses to promote an evil Republican to the legislature to represent their own interests....assuming that these Republicans don't steal and cheat within the context of the legislative process the obfuscator does not have a case of "civil rights violations" that he can point to. He can only say that there are other people who DISAGREE with his position.

Again - my goal is to DOCUMENT THE FACTS as a means of taking away as many foundations by which excuses for the perpetuating conditions within our community take place. Unfortunately there are too many of my people who have "Sold out to the Democrats" for them to be willing to focus upon pursuing the BEST INTERESTS of the Black community by dutifully attacking WHOMEVER is in office and is FAILING THEM rather than contenting themselves that the office holder has views in alignment with their own joining together with them to go fight the "conservatives under every rock" with they say is causing them to fail.

Recently a critic of mine accused me of "not caring nothing about Black folks. I am just an operative for the Republicans". I realize that in carrying out my mission I am going to be attacked as such. I am made to wonder, however, how this and other people making such claims against me can logically be satisfied that in my attempts to PAINT THE REAL PICTURE of who actually PRESIDES OVER THE BLACK COMMUNITY despite the continued shortfalls in results we quite possibly have a circumstance where What is POPULARLY ASSUMED to be the policies that bring forth the BEST INTERESTS OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY can't be proven to EFFECTIVELY DO SO.

What is there to fear about what I am doing? If indeed it is shown that this popular force is IN FACT working then your assumptions will be validated. The only possible alternative is that you have more interest in DEFENDING your ASSUMPTION than you do in OBTAINING THE EFFECTIVE RESULTS that you perpetually pursue.

WHO HAS GAINED MORE POWER AS THEY HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AS THE FRAMEWORK FOR YOUR PURSUIT? Do you even bother to make note?

THE STATE OF ILLINOIS

Historically, Illinois was a major battleground state between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. In recent elections, it has gradually shifted more Democratic at the national and state level and has become a solid Democratic state in the Midwest. Democratic dominance in Illinois is due in part to the control of Chicago. In addition, Democrats have made inroads in the traditionally Republican "collar counties" (i.e., the suburbs surrounding Chicago's Cook County, Illinois), which are becoming increasingly diverse. Republicans usually prevail in rural northern and central Illinois, and Democrats usually win in southern Illinois and in the Quad Cities and East St. Louis metropolitan areas. Illinois has voted for Democratic presidential candidates in the last five elections. Barack Obama easily won the state's 21 electoral votes in 2008 by a margin of 22 percentage points with 60.8% of the vote.

CHICAGOLAND

From Wikipedia
During much of the last half of the 19th century, Chicago's politics were dominated by a growing Democratic Party organization dominated by ethnic ward-heelers. During the 1880s and 1890s, Chicago had a powerful radical tradition with large and highly organized socialist, anarchist and labor organizations.[49] For much of the 20th century, Chicago has been among the largest and most reliable Democratic strongholds in the United States, with Chicago's Democratic vote the state of Illinois tends to be "solid blue" in presidential elections since 1992. The citizens of Chicago have not elected a Republican mayor since 1927, when William Thompson was voted into office. The strength of the party in the city is partly a consequence of Illinois state politics, where the Republicans have come to represent the rural and farm concerns while the Democrats support urban issues such as Chicago's public school funding. Although Chicago includes less than 25% of the state's population, eight of Illinois' nineteen U.S. Representatives have part of the city in their districts.

Former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley's mastery of machine politics preserved the Cook County Democratic Organization long after the demise of similar machines in other large U.S. cities.[50] During much of that time, the city administration found opposition mainly from a liberal "independent" faction of the Democratic Party. The independents finally gained control of city government in 1983 with the election of Harold Washington. Since Washington's death, Chicago has since been under the leadership of Richard M. Daley, the son of Richard J. Daley. Because of the dominance of the Democratic Party in Chicago, the Democratic primary vote held in the spring is generally more significant than the general elections in November.

These results are shameful but for the noted exceptions.

All of this leads to the key question: WHAT ARE YOU ULTIMATELY GETTING OUT OF ALL OF THIS?

Some people will accuse me of bias, beliving that with me assembling all of this "bad news" I am showing my own racial hatred and trying to show up Black people. How interesting that if I collected the same data and pointed out that the SYSTEM is discriminating against Black people and thus - the high rates of unemployment, the poor schools and other associated ills - I have done "good work" in pointing out SYSTEMATIC RACISM that is causing Black people to fail.

Now that I dare to point out the situation where there is a high misery index AND there is absolutely dominating Democratic control - I must be called out for daring to go against the "Mission From God" which says that before Black folks can ever exptect to see any specific BENEFIT from our long march with the Progressives....we must "progressively" show conservatives the door and remove them from their seats.

This is one hell of a strategy if your goal is to benefit Democrats. It stinks to high heaven IF your goal is to obtain the best interests of the Black Community and in having NO PERMANENT FRIENDS - you begin to attack whom ever is in office because they have failed to come through on your PERMANENT INTERESTS.

****************************************************************

Conclusion - The City of Chicago is hearby joins BALTIMORE as a city in which a Black person residing within HAS NO REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE and no MAJORITY REPUBLICAN LEGISLATIVE BODY standing in his way.

You are therefore allowed to BLAME THE DEMOCRATS for your condition and to seek redress for your PERMANENT INTERESTS from them and not just marching WITH THEM ot obtain them from some amorphous outside enemy.

Hey constructive feedback.

I just came across your comment on my blog concerning manufacturing and free trade. Sorry that I missed you. I will post a reply over there shortly.

I will also be back here to read your commentary.

I am just checking in...

Let's get it on.

Your thesis seems to state that the Democratic Party has hurt the Black Cause by presenting cities with strong Democratic representation and incredible rates of joblessness for blacks. You present Chicago and the State of Illinois as your chief example.

Every city (Milwaukee, Chicago, Buffalo, Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland) at the top of your list is a Rust Belt city that has been destroyed by the demise of U.S. Manufacturing. Obviously, you would agree that the U.S. is now a service economy, correct?

The United States of America at one time was the world's top exporter of manufactured wares. Republican backed free trade, international commerce has led to the shift of manufacturing to overseas, low-cost producers.

The loss of those jobs has crushed the Upper Midwest and industrial areas such as Baltimore and Northern NJ. These were the skilled jobs that were the backbone of the black middle class as legislated and covert discrimination forced African Americans into skilled labor from post Civil War through the 60's.

And what about Cincinnati? This hotbed of conservatism is still on your list.

Clearly, the Democratic Party had little to do with these conditions.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

Your thesis is dead.

You know Kofi:

When YOU hijack someone's "thesis" you can indeed kill it.

Do you mind if I give you my ACTUAL argument?

My ARGUMENT is that Chicago, just like a long, long, long list of other cities were there is a sizable Black population is evidence that the PROMISES made by the Democrats when they, via the "Democrats who are Black" operatives working in an unchecked manner WITHIN our racial consciousness fused our RACIAL DEVELOPMENT movement with the DEMOCRATIC/PROGRESSIVE power movement.

Do you see Kofi - this is NOT about lost manufacturing jobs. My argument is that ultimately the Black community has been SOLD OUT by the "Democrats who are Black" which allowed our community to take the eye off of the ball. We have been CLEARLY focusing on achieving POWER for the Democrats (which is quite evident by my research) while failing to actually manage those who are NOW IN POWER over the communities were we live.

How do you argue otherwise?

In addition - YOU say that the "Manufacturing jobs have left".

I SAY - these cities were ALL built UP by the growth of industry in this region. These "CONSUMERS OF LABOR" departed once the LABOR that they were purchasing GOT TOO EXPENSIVE.

It is quite interesting that if and when a store manager comes up with the brilliant idea of doubling his prices and then LOSES HIS CUSTOMERS.....he is FIRED for delivering a policy that has ultimately FAILED the interests of the establishment. Yet in the case at hand when the agents for the "sellers of labor" (unions, civil rights activists, workers rights activists) set up a situation where the cost of labor is increased and thus the CUSTOMERS depart......it is the CONSUMER OF LABOR who is bashed over the head as the one with the policy that has injured the masses.

How do you defend such a claim?

Beyond that, Kofi - the Democrats.....sorry let me call them what they are - the Progressives having assumed MONOPOLY POWER over these cities, regions and the people WITHIN have FAILED TO FIELD AN ALTERNATIVE PLAN that has shown to be able to REPLACE the jobs that have vacated.

Kofi all of this points to a strange turn of events that have taken place among the masses. 50 years ago when their elected officials FAILED them there was an active attempt to purge them out of office and replace them with others who "had our best interests in mind". All of this was rightfully so.

Fast forward to today and I provide the factual evidence of the political and demographic map and then notate the continued grievances and misery. Yet instead of a PURGE OF FAILURE - I hear defensiveness and/or redirection as to why the very same plan of action is not due for this dominate regime?

In closing Kofi - the frequently heard rhetoric about "voting against your best interests"??? Could you tell me how this is NOT the case in Chicago and other areas?

I will even volunteer an out for you. Is it possible that VOTING is not going to solve the problems that I have identified in these cities?
